To the editor:

On behalf of the students, faculty and administration at the Liberty Elementary School, I would like to publicly thank the various community members who shared their talents and expertise during our Black History Month Celebrations.

Sherma Daniels and Oliver King kicked off the month with dazzling performances at our weekly Celebrate Success Assembly. A delicious Soul Food menu was organized and prepared by Suzie Garizas, Carol Herbert and students in the Sullivan BOCES Commercial Foods Program. The third graders loved those collard greens and the mouthwatering poetry read by El Monique Wallace. The fourth graders are very excited about telling their quilting stories with the assistance of Christine King. Students learned about quilts and the Underground Railroad and they were able to see a variety of different patterns and styles.

All of these events would not have been possible without the enthusiasm of Renee Robinson and Diane Hinton.

These two fourth grade parents gave their time, resources and energy to see that each grade level of students had a unique Black History Month experience. We have all been enriched by their efforts and greatly appreciate their dedication to the children at LES.

Sincerely,
Ms. Jeri Finnegan
Principal

To the editor:

It is interesting, if not surprising, that Raymond Pomeroy and Robert Kunis, the two legislators who, to me, have seemed the most inclined to promote their own interests via their legislative positions, are the very legislators most aggressively promoting the unconscionable gambling of taxpayer monies on a convention center for the benefit of the Concord project.

As a county resident, I would like to go on record as being very much against seriously jeopardizing the entire county’s finances for the foreseeable future by backing a developer’s hazardous plan—by, in effect, having all of us become partners in a disquietingly speculative venture. (Louis Cappelli’s slick display of swatches of upholstery notwithstanding.) It is not the mission of county government to put our financial well being at unnecessary risk.

This plan is so ill advised and imprudent that I think that the two legislators who appear to be pushing it should be voted out of office and that others who may join them should become ex-county officials as well.

To the editor:

Some opinionated tidbits, for all it is worth. I have no intentions of criticizing but I am offering an objective appraisal of what our accepted lifestyle came to.

The world I once knew is now a shameful place which changed, not for the better, with our present society losing too many of its moral and spiritual values.

You must keep remembering that the media networks and the press feigning neutrality, are no longer cleverly sly because this most leftist clan fears the GOP has finally assumed control of all three branches of our government. Which scares them more than their loss of their influence, ever scheming with their Democratic brothers. And look for them to keep passing along untruths, slights and put-downs of all ideas GOP.

Too many of the press and the media will constantly be a willing ally, walking on eggshells for the Clintons and their supporting caucus groups, and affluent individuals who have no intentions other than what they claim. The biggest scam artists ever to inhabit the White House and now the Albany Statehouse.

What this country came to with the pols, in most cases, will always be disposed to promote their own best political interests and tenure. Submitting at these times, knowingly, to the voting powers which presently exist, especially among the mostly recent dominating minorities which will continually and ultimately will surely reach its peak in coming nearby future years.

And if any legally existing quota system is not lawfully adhered to, especially with the uncontrolled influx of illegals will continue, this country is slowly turning into a third-rate banana country.

Throwing a spotlight on the laziness and the incompetence of the Federal Government, who conceived, as yet, no control in our present society on the unending fed swill of prurient trash on television, glorified violence with too many perverted films in the movies, the anti-social hatred on the radio and records. And with too many portions of our sex-obsessed society remaining in a state of decadence.

And what happened in our society where our children once played freely outdoors and cars went unlocked. Who are now being terrorized by the criminals who are set free by the partisan judges and parole boards who too many times worry more about criminal rights than the safety of our law-abiding citizens. A damn shame.

To the editor,

Beware America! The liberal democrats want to do for the middle class what they did for the poor. Big government strips you of your dignity, your pride and your morality. The class warfare themes of liberal democrats are an insidious evil designed to take us down the same path that destroyed Soviet Russia.

It seems that only by the grace of God we now have a leader rather than a deceiver for our president. America belongs to those with their heads held up and not their hands held out. Americans, call your senators, tell them to get fully behind our president now, before the liberals steal our dreams.
