Weiland
to retire in May
By TOM KANE
NARROWSBURG — Charles Wieland, assistant superintendent
of the Town of Tusten Water Department, chairman of the Planning Board
and the town’s representative on the Upper Delaware Council, will retire
from his job on May 25.
Wieland has worked for the town for 12 years.
“I will remain the chairman of planning and the town’s
representative on the Upper Delaware Council,” Wieland said.
The town board immediately began a search for a qualified
person to replace Wieland.
“I’ll be available for a while beyond my retirement date
if the town hasn’t found anyone,” he said.
Wieland said he is spending more time taking care of
his 91-year-old mother Mary “Toots” Wieland, whose house burned down last
year. She is currently living with him.
In other town matters, the board discussed the need for
a new well to replace the oldest of the town’s three wells. “The old well
is needing more and more maintenance to keep its capacity up. It’s not
worth it to spend the money,” said superintendent of water and sewer Scott
Birney. “It makes sense to dig a new well.”
“People get real testy when they don’t have water,” Birney
said. The cost of a new well is in the area of $22,000.
The board’s water committee will study the problem and
make a recommendation to the full board.
