Thanks,
Shohola

SHOHOLA — Shohola Township accepted a certificate of
appreciation for its recycling efforts at the February 8 board of supervisors
meeting. County recycling coordinator Christine Obser thanked the township
for participating in the program.
Obser, of the Community Planning and Human Development
Office, presented a separate certificate to Harry Graber, who hosts the
Shohola Township depot at his Midtown Convenience Store on Route 434 near
the Shohola-Barryville bridge.
“It’s been a pleasure assisting the county in this community
service,” Graber said.
In the continuing effort to correct zoning violations
in the Trails End mobile home park on Route 6, solicitor Edwin Abrahamsen
reported on District Magistrate D.J. Cooper’s ruling of a $3,500 fine imposed
on a resident attempting to construct a permanent structure onto an RV.
Abrahamsen said the township has issued 20 notices of violations and will
“proceed accordingly.”
Also on the agenda, George Fluhr, Jr., vice president
of the Shohola Township Volunteer Fire & Rescue Company, implored the
community to volunteer with his department. “Everyone is going to need
us sooner or later,” he said. “Even if you have two hours [to volunteer],
we’ll take it.”
In related business, the board put off a decision on
a fire ban request from the state’s Department of Conservation and Natural
Resources (DCNR) until the March meeting. The DCNR asked the township to
pass a ban ordinance, in effect from March 1 through May 25 and October
1 through December 1.
Supervisor George Fluhr, Sr. said the township has a
procedure in place that will be “more beneficial to the people of the township”
than a ban. “If we need it, it’s there,” he said.
Supervisor Steven Dellert suggested a consultation with
the township’s fire and rescue squad prior to a decision.
In other Shohola Township business, the board:
- Approved lot consolidations
for Robert J. and Debra Hanrahan, Jr. and Joseph and Ruth Ann Quinn. Both
actions are subject to receipt of a deed in a form acceptable to the township
solicitor.
- Announced a Shohola/Greeley
Watershed Association meeting on Friday, February 16 at 2:00 p.m. at the
Pike County Conservation District Office.
