SULLIVAN COUNTY — The Sullivan County Soil and Water Conservation District announces its annual spring Tree and Shrub Program. The district offers a selection of deciduous and conifer species of various size and age.

Landowners can choose from nut trees, flowering trees and shrubs, song bird and butterfly. Other items available through the program are fruit trees, ground covers, fertilizer tablets, marking flags, tree protectors and bluebird boxes.

To order call 845/292-6552, ext. 101. Application deadline is Friday, April 6. Tree pickup is Friday, April 20 and Saturday, April 21.






UDC annual report available

NARROWSBURG - The Annual Report of the Upper Delaware Council (UDC) for Fiscal Year 2000 is now available. The UDC, a non-profit organization incorporated in 1988, works in partnership with the National Park Service (NPS) to oversee the implementation of the River Management Plan for the Upper Delaware Scenic and Recreational River.

The report, which covers the federal fiscal year period of October 1, 1999 to September 30, 2000, includes the following information:

  • UDC activity highlights for fiscal year 2000
  • Objectives for fiscal year 2001
  • “The View from the Chair,” a column by 2000 UDC chairperson and Town of Delaware representative Harold G. Roeder, Jr.
  • Fiscal year 2000 revenues, expenditures and fund balances
  • Directories of UDC annual awards recipients and Technical Assistance Grants in 2000
  • UDC membership and staff rosters
  • Statement of UDC responsibility and authority

Fishing with Pegala

SHOHOLA — A three-night hands-on workshop will be presented by Pegela Unlimited on February 15 and 22 and March 1 from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. The class will feature speaker Kurt Hagemann and will teach the beginner fisherperson how to become an angler.

Subjects to be covered are: spin fishing techniques, fishing with live bait and artificial lures, fish identification, how to handle different species without injury, cleaning and filleting and preparing and cooking.

Participants should wear old clothes and bring an apron. The fee is $15 per person. Pre-registration is required. Call 570/559-7937.






UDC talks water use

NARROWSBURG — The Upper Delaware Council (UDC) will hold the next monthly meeting of the Water Use/Resource Management Committee (WU/RM) on Tuesday, February 20 at 7:00 p.m. at the UDC office, 211 Bridge St. in Narrowsburg.

The agenda will include a presentation by National Park Service Biologist Jamie Myers on the summer 2000 water quality monitoring program for the Upper Delaware Scenic and Recreational River, as well as new and old business, updates on ongoing projects, reports of recent meetings and notices of upcoming events.
