SHARON LEE CLARK
MIDLOTHIAN, VA — Sharon Lee Clark of Midlothian, VA, formerly
of Pond Eddy, a registered nurse at the Chesterfield Mental Health Clinic,
Chesterfield, VA, died Monday, January 29, 2001 at Chippenham Hospital
in Chesterfield, VA. She was 47.
Daughter of Vernon Clark and Reta Kalin Clark, she was
born February 22, 1953 in Port Jervis.
She attended Pond Eddy United Methodist Church in Pond
Eddy; was a member of the Vietnam Veterans Association of America; the
Richmond AIDS Ministry in Richmond, VA; Virginia Nursing Association; and
a board member of the Professional Marriage and Family Therapists.
Survivors include her father, Vernon Clark and his wife,
Carolyn of Port Jervis; her mother, Reta Clark of Green Cove Springs, FL;
a brother, Michael of Green Cove Springs, FL; a niece, Catie Clark; aunts
and uncles.
Services and burial will take place in the spring. Burial
will be in Glen Spey Cemetery.

EDNA M. COYLE
LIBERTY — Edna M. Coyle of Liberty, a retired teacher
at St. Patrick’s Cathedral School in New York City, and a longtime area
resident, died Monday, February 5, 2001 at the Horton Medical Center in
Middletown. She was 94.
Daughter of the late Edward and Anna M. Coyle, she was
born March 23, 1906 in New York City.
She was a retired bookkeeper for the Sullivan County Harness
Racing Association in Monticello and had also been a bookkeeper for Sullivan’s
Department Store and Fuelane Corp., both in Liberty. She was a member of
St. Peter’s Church in Liberty.
Survivors include dear friends, the Win Barley family
of Liberty.
A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at St. Peter’s
Church in Liberty. Monsignor Edward Straub officiated. Burial was in the
parish cemetery.
LISA M. HAZEN
BEACH LAKE — Lisa Marie Hazen of Beach Lake died unexpectedly
at home Wednesday, February 1, 2001 from complications of diabetes. She
was 25.
Daughter of Thomas and Barbara McGuire Hazen of Equinunk,
she was born in Walton, NY.
She attended Honesdale high school and was a member of
the band until 1994.
Survivors include her parents; a son, Austin Van Dunk
at home; a brother, Matthew of Bethany; paternal grandparents, Henry and
Rita Hazen of Equinunk; a maternal grandmother, Katherine DiGise of Honesdale;
a great uncle, Frank Branning of Honesdale; aunts, uncles and cousins.
Services were held at the Hessling Funeral Home in Honesdale.
The Rev. Kathy Grecco, pastor of the Equinunk United Methodist Church,
officiated. Burial will be in the Pine Mill Cemetery in Manchester Township
in the spring.

CARLA ROWLES MARION
HONESDALE — Carla Rowles Marion of Honesdale, a former
seamstress for the former Katz Company in Honesdale and later for Waymart
Knit Wear, died Monday, February 5, 2001 at Wayne Woodlands Manor in Waymart.
She was 75.
Daughter and last surviving member of the late Ralph and
Kathleen Caldwell Rowles family, she was born in Lumber City.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Honesdale.
Survivors include her husband, Charles B. Marion; a daughter,
Helen Piorkowski of South Canaan; nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by two sisters, Lou Semina Buckreis
and Delcie Hedgelon; and three brothers, Charles, William and James Rowles.
Private funeral services were held at the Hessling Funeral
Home in Honesdale. The Rev. Mark E. Heiner, pastor of the First Baptist
Church in Honesdale, officiated. Burial will be in the Glen Dyberry Cemetery
in Honesdale at a later date.

Church in Honesdale or the Wayne Unit of the American Cancer Society in
Honesdale.
DOLORES M. MURNS
KAUNEONGA LAKE — Dolores M. Murns of Kauneonga Lake, a
homemaker and lifelong area resident, died Thursday, February 8, 2001 in
Community General Hospital in Harris. She was 61.
Daughter of Thomas and Alice Masters Hickman, she was
born June 10, 1939 in Carbondale, PA.
She was a member of the Mongaup Valley United Methodist
Church.
Survivors include two sons, Edgar of Winfield, AL and
Michael Long of Kauneonga Lake; two daughters, Donna Hillard of Monticello
and Joanne Payne of Rutherford, NJ; three brothers, Donald Hickman of Trumansburg,
Thomas Hickman of White Lake and William Hickman of Winter Haven, FL; a
sister, Jeanette Murran of Monticello; eight grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
Services were held at Ramsay’s Funeral Home in Kauneonga
Lake. The Rev. Kenneth Rodgers officiated. Cremation took place at Cedar
Hill Crematory in Newburgh.
AMY G. MURRAY
MONTICELLO — Amy G. Murray of Monticello, a retired bookkeeper
for Chase Manhattan Bank in New York City, died Wednesday, February 7,
2001 at the Seelig Division of Community General Hospital in Harris. She
was 73.
Daughter of the late James George and Agnes Body Rason,
she was born December 27, 1927 in Brooklyn.
She was a member of the Monticello English Congregation
of Jehovah’s Witnesses.
Survivors include her husband, Benjamin H. Murray at home;
a sister, Sarah Williams of Brooklyn; four sons, Michael of Brooklyn, Benjamin
of Atlanta, GA, Carlton of Brooklyn and Elliot of Brooklyn; two daughters,
Arlene Gordon of Monticello and Sandra Rason of St. Louis, MO; 11 grandchildren;
six great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and friends.
She was predeceased by a sister, Lorraine McKnight and
a brother, James George Rason.
A memorial service was held at the Monticello Congregation
of Jehovah’s Witnesses, Kingdom Hall, Monticello. Terrance Pettigrew officiated.
Burial was in the Sullivan County Veteran’s Cemetery in Liberty.

GERALD W. MYERS
BOCA RATON, FL — Gerald “Jerry” W. Myers of Boca Raton,
FL, founder of the J&M Business Machines in Poughkeepsie, died Tuesday,
January 30, 2001 in Boca Raton, FL. He was 61.
Son of James Myers and the late Rita Kirschner Myers,
he was born November 23, 1939 in Honesdale.
He attended Honesdale Catholic School until his senior
year and graduated from Honesdale high school in 1958.
He moved to Boca Raton in 1988 and started the J&M
Business Machines Company, which he operated until his death. He served
in the U.S. Army until 1962 and was a veteran of the Korean War. He was
a member of the Poughkeepsie VFW and Elks Club; was a member of the United
States Chess Federation and attained the status of a chess master.
Survivors include his wife, Jeanette; a son, Jeff; a daughter,
Michelle; four grandchildren; his father; and two brothers, Jimmy and Joseph.

LOUIS B. NIELSEN, JR.
HONESDALE — Louis B. Nielsen, Jr. of Honesdale, a lawyer
in association with Attorney Stephen Jennings of Honesdale, died Thursday,
February 8, 2001 at home. He was 82.
Son of the late Dr. Louis B. and Karen Hendriksen Nielsen,
he was born in Honesdale.
He completed his education at Blair Academy at Blairstown,
NJ, Wesleyan University in Middletown, CT, and the University of Pennsylvania
Law School in Philadelphia. He served for three years in the Army Air Corps
Intelligence Division in World War II and was the Wayne County District
Attorney for 12 years. In 1997 he was cited by the state senate for 50
years of distinguished service as a member of the Pennsylvania Bar Association.
He was chairman of the Red Cross, Wayne County chapter;
member of the Vestry of Grace Episcopal Church in Honesdale; president
and Paul Harris Fellow of the Honesdale Rotary Club; secretary/treasurer
of the Wayne County Sportsman’s Association and president of the Wayne
County Bar Association. He was a third generation citizen of Honesdale
and his grandparents were among the founders of the area.
Survivors include a daughter, Karen Bevan of Bronxville,
NY; and a grandson, Andrew Alexander Bevan.
Services were held in the Grace Episcopal Bible Church
in Honesdale. The Rev. Grahm Cliff officiated. Burial will be in May in
the Glen Dyberry Cemetery in Honesdale.

ARNOLD J. PRICE
MONTICELLO — Arnold J. “Scoop” Price of Monticello, a
retired mechanic for the Village of Monticello and a lifelong area resident,
died Friday, February 2, 2001 at the Horton Medical Center in Middletown.
He was 74.
Son of the late Lester and Florence VanKeuren Price, he
was born September 3, 1926 in Monticello.
A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, he was a member of
the Ruddick Trowbridge American Legion Post #73, in Monticello. He was
also a former member of the Rock Hill Fire Department and an original member
of the Jackson Hunting Camp in Monticello.
Survivors include his wife, Lorraine Pearce Price at home;
five brothers, Lester, Jr., Raymond, Donald and Tom, all of Monticello
and Robert of Swan Lake; four sisters, Violet Calhoun and Shirley Calhoun,
both of Monticello, Carol Surerus of Rock Hill and Marilyn Taylor of Tulsa,
OK; nieces, nephews and cousins.
Services were held at the VanInwegen-Kenny Funeral Home
in Monticello. The Rev. David Jolly officiated. Burial was in Rock Hill
Cemetery.

ALBERT RESER, JR.
HAWLEY — Albert Reser, Jr. of Hawley, a postal worker
in Hawley, died unexpectedly on Tuesday, January 30, 2001 in North Myrtle
Beach, SC. He was 63.
Son of the late Albert K. Reser, Sr. and Frida Lenz Reser,
he was born in Brooklyn, NY.
He was a member of St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church
in Hawley; a member of Cricket Hill Golf Cub; a former member of Tafton
Fire & Ambulance. He served in the U.S. Army.
Survivors include his wife, Julianna Reser of Hawley;
three sons, Jeffrey K. of Cary, NC, Albert Scott of Pocono Summit, and
Andrew J. of Burlington, KY; two sisters, Bertha Seeley of Tafton and Charlotte
Bell of Paupack; six grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
Services were held at Teeters East Chapel in Hawley. The
Rev. David Heckler, pastor of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, officiated. Burial
was at Queen of Peace Cemetery in Hawley.
EVELYN KOHLER ROBISCH
JEFFERSONVILLE — Evelyn Robisch of Jeffersonville, a homemaker
and lifelong area resident, died Friday, February 9, 2001 in Community
General Hospital in Harris. She was 93.
Daughter of the late William and Mary Krantz Kohler, she
was born August 24, 1907 in Kohlertown. She was the widow of David Laverty
and Irving Robisch.
She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star for
50 years; the First Presbyterian Church of Jeffersonville; Delaware Valley
Senior Citizens and Jeffersonville Senior Citizens.
Survivors include a niece, Shirley Stabbert of Callicoon;
three stepsons, John Laverty of Canada, Charles Robisch of Atlanta, GA
and Robert Robisch of Mt. Airy, MD; four grand nieces and one grand nephew.
She was predeceased by two brothers, Mark and Percy Kohler;
a nephew, William Mark Kohler; and a niece, Claire McCarty.
Services were held at the Stewart-Murphy Funeral Home
in Jeffersonville. The Rev. Robert McLeod officiated. Burial was in the
Liberty Cemetery in Liberty.

MICHAEL W. SCHLERETH
COCHECTON — Michael W. Schlereth of Cochecton, a retired
self-employed mechanic in Queens, and a 20-year area resident, died Friday,
February 9, 2001 at Community General Hospital in Harris. He was 62.
Son of Michael and Elizabeth Campbell Schlereth, he was
born August 3, 1938 in Brooklyn.
Survivors include a sister, Theresa McCoy and husband
Joseph of Brentwood, LI; a brother, Joseph of Cochecton; nieces, nephews,
great nieces and great nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at Our Lady
of the Lake R.C. Church. The Rev. Thomas Jones officiated. Burial was in
the East Cochecton Cemetery in Cochecton.
GUSTAVE SCHOCK
MONTICELLO — Gustave “Bud” Schock of Monticello, a longtime
area resident and a florist at the Monticello Greenhouse for over 50 years,
died February 3, 2001 at the Seelig Division of Community General Hospital
in Harris. He was 79.
A World War II Army veteran, he served with the 551 Field
Artillery Unit during the Battle of the Bulge, the Normandy Invasion and
the Crossing of the Rhine. He was a member of the Ruddick Trowbridge American
Legion Post #73 in Monticello.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth Sheeley Schock at home;
a son, Thomas of Monticello; a grandson, Ryan of Woodbourne; and two sisters,
Florence Heins of Monticello and Ethel Schnider of Connecticut.
He was predeceased by a brother, Carl; and three sisters,
Gladys Freisinger, Clara Freisinger and Dorothy Davis.
A memorial service was held at Ramsay’s Funeral Home in
Monticello. The Rev. Rosemary Smith officiated. Cremation took place at
the Cedar Hill Crematory in Middle Hope.

MARIE H. SCHULTZ
COCHECTON — Marie H. Schultz of Cochecton Center, originally
from Brooklyn, a longtime area resident, died Friday, February 2, 2001
in Ontario, NY. She was 86.
She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Narrowsburg.
Survivors include a daughter, Lois Roger Hager of Ontario,
NY; and a grandson, Paul.
A graveside service was held at Green-Wood Cemetery in
Brooklyn.

RICHARD W. VAN KEUREN
BEACH LAKE — Richard W. Van Keuren of Beach Lake, a 20-year
area resident, died Thursday, February 8, 2001 at home. He was 80.
Son of Edith and Richard Van Keuren, Sr., he was born
November 18, 1920 in Youngsville.
He spent his early life in Liberty. He served in the Army
during World War II after which he earned a Bachelor, Master and Professional
degree in Education, eventually serving as school administrator in the
East Meadow School District in Long Island. After retiring and moving to
Beach Lake, he became active in St. John the Evangelist Parish in Honesdale,
a library volunteer, an avid stone wall builder and a devoted “BeeBop”
to his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Therese; his children and
their families, Mary of Rochester; Edward, Noriko, Seika and Kanon of Herndon,
VA; Janet, Tony, Janine, Kristen, Anthony and Nicholas Casapulla of Moorestown,
NJ; Karen, Brian, Elizabeth and Daniel Guza of Royersford, PA; and Linda
of Pittsburgh; a sister, Regina Redding of Suffern, NY; and a brother,
Isham of Walkill.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated in St. Mary
Magdalen’s Church in Honesdale. Burial was in the parish cemetery.

HENRY A. WALTER
LOCH SHELDRAKE — Henry W. Walter of Loch Sheldrake, a
lifelong area resident, a Sullivan County and Town of Fallsburg stalwart,
died Thursday, February 1, 2001 in the Walnut Mountain Care Center in Liberty.
He was 84.
Son of the late Anton and Sophie Berg Walter, he was born
November 15, 1916 in Loch Sheldrake.
He retired as owner-operator of Ken Haven Farm in Loch
Sheldrake and was a retired Postmaster of the Loch Sheldrake Post Office;
a member and past president of the Sullivan County Postal Employees Association;
member of the National League of Postmasters; founding member and first
president of the Loch Sheldrake Senior Citizens; past member and director
of the Sullivan County Arts Council; former district treasurer of the Fallsburg
Central school district and a former 16-year member of the school board
of education; a 62-year member of the Loch Sheldrake Fire Company and was
named Fireman of the Year in 1984; former member of the Fallsburg Lions
Cub; a member of the Hureyville Methodist Church and a former member of
the church board and a recipient of the Governor Clinton Award by the Fallsburg
Masonic Lodge.
Survivors include his wife, Alice Carswell Walter at home;
a son, Kenneth H. and wife Carol Montana of Grahamsville; a daughter, Michele
Truitt and husband John Clark of Las Vegas NE; two sisters, Elsie Scarpati
of Leesburg, FL and Grace Areson and husband Ralph of Poughkeepsie; four
grandchildren; two great grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins.
Services were held at the Harris Funeral Home in Liberty.
The Rev. Donald Baker officiated. Burial was in Hurleyville Cemetery.

MADELINE WINCKLER
HOLLYWOOD. FL — Madeline Winckler of Hollywood, FL, formerly
of Cochecton Center, died at home on February 4, 2001. She was 79.
Daughter of Lewis and Elizabeth Campfield, she was born
November 23, 1921 in Narrowsburg. She was the widow of Fred Winckler.
Survivors include two sisters, Anna Maranzani of Hasbrouck
Heights, NJ and Mabel Gumpper of Moravia, NY; nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by two brothers, Carl Campfield and
George Campfield.
Cremation took place in Hollywood, FL. Burial will be
at Glen Cove Cemetery in Narrowsburg at a later date.
