Post Office celebrates its customers

By TOM KANE

MILANVILLE — Judy Diehl, officer-in-charge at the Milanville Post Office, wanted to show customers that she appreciated their patronage so she baked muffins and a carrot cake and got her mother to make her famous killer-hot chili.

“Customers have been eating all day,” she said last Thursday at the post office attached to the Milanville General Store on River Road. “We’re calling it a ‘hot time in the PO.’”

She also appointed seventh grader Melissa Zirpoli of Milanville “postmaster-for-a-day.”

Zirpoli, 12, attends the Damascus Elementary School.

Zirpoli’s duties were to answer the phone, sort the incoming mail and break down mail into categories.

“I never realized how complicated it is to sort mail,” she said.
