Tusten town board:
no change in
cell tower zoning

By TOM KANE

NARROWSBURG — By a unanimous vote of 5-0, the Town of Tusten Board rejected a measure to change the regulations in R-2 zoning, which does not presently allow the construction of a cell tower.

Last week, the board held a public hearing at the request of Steve and Angela Daley, who are considering the erection of a cell tower on their 90-acre property in Lava, an R-2 zone.

“If a company wants to erect a cell tower, it will have to go before the Zoning Board of Appeals (ZBA) to seek a variance,” said town supervisor Dick Crandall.

If the ZBA approves, the company would have to go through a site-plan review before the town planning board.

Cell towers can be erected in R-1 zones now without a variance, but with a site plan review.
