Girls basketball

January 3

Tri-Valley (TV) 36, S.S. Seward 34

Tri-Valley (TV) outscored S.S. Seward 15-1 in the final four minutes to pull out a victory in an Orange County Interscholastic Athletic Association (OCIAA) Division IV girls basketball game in Florida.

Heather Bachmann had 11 points and 10 rebounds and Megan Sheeley added 13 rebounds for TV (4-3, 2-1 OCIAA). For the Spartans (3-4, 0-2 OCIAA), Jess Marchessano had 13 points and Keri Dugan scored 10. The biggest miss came though when Marchessano missed a 3-pointer at the buzzer, which would have given Seward the win.

Sullivan West - Jeffersonville Youngsville (SW/JY) 54,
Chester 17

Thirteen of Tiffany Houser’s 19 points came in the second quarter as SW/JY breezed past host Chester during this OCIAA division IV game. SW/JY (8-0, 3-0 OCIAA) led 39-3 at halftime. Aileen Semenetz and Kristin Erlweineach scored 10 points for SW/JY. Kelly Cavanaugh had 10 points for Chester (4-3, 1-2 OCIAA).

Eldred (ECS) 52, Tuxedo 46

Having 13 points and 12 assists, Christine Lizzi helped her team pull out a narrow win over Tuxedo. ECS (5-1, 2-0 OCIAA) was heavily supported by its players, having three others scoring double figures. Stacie Blaut had 12 points and eight rebounds, Erin Donelly had 12 points, and Becky Ryman scored 10 points. Ashley Rossi led Chester (1-7, 6-2 OCIAA) with 17 points.

Livingston Manor (LM) 38, Chapel Field 35

LM’s (3-3, 1-0 OCIAA) division V win over Chapel Field was led by Rachel Irwin with 13 points and 11 rebounds. Also leading the team was Casey Green with 12 points. Stacy Kuperus and Lynne Wit each had 10 points for Chapel Field (1-6, 0-2 OCIAA).

Roscoe (RCS) 43, Sullivan West - Delaware Valley (SW/DV) 35

Taking advantage of a 14-8 third quarter run, RCS was able to pull away from SW/DV and win the Division V game. Danielle Austin led RCS (5-2, 1-0 OCIAA), which was behind 21-19 at halftime, with 18 points. Kelly Ahart and Crystal Evans each had eight points. Calley Sander led SW/DV (3-4, 2-1 OCIAA) with 18 points and Megan Moran added eight.

Sullivan West – Narrowsburg (SW/NS) 57, Fallsburg 30

Having a tremendous 17 points, 17 rebounds and six blocks, it’s no wonder Nadine McCarthy and the rest of the SW/NS team were able to steal this non-league game from Fallsburg. Adding 11 points to SW/NS (1-5) was Kim Jay. Katie Yacino scored 10 points and had 12 rebounds. Fallsburg (0-5) was led by Tara Adams with 14 points) and Sara Ingber with 12.

Boys basketball

January 4

Sullivan West - Jeffersonville Youngsville (SW/JY) 71,
Eldred ECS) 47

SW/JY built a 35-12 lead at halftime and routed ECS in an OCIAA Division IV game in Jeffersonville. Jon Tanous and Gregg Sementz paced SW/JY (6-1, 2-0 OCIAA) with 12 points apiece. Tanous also had nine rebounds. Warren Ritter and Joe Scully each scored 14 points for ECS (4-3,2-1 OCIAA).

S.S. Seward 63, Tri-Valley (TV) 38

Keith Buelta scored nine of his team-high 13 points in the first half as S.S. Seward raced to a 32-13 halftime advantage in an OCIAA victory over TV in Florida. Michael Hoyt had 10 points and seven assists and Rich Gillespie had six points and 16 rebounds for the Spartans (7-0, 2-0 OCIAA).

Sullivan West - Narrowsburg (SW/NS) 63, Sullivan West - Delaware Valley (SW/DV) 54

SW/NS’s Bruce Nober scored 12 of his 32 points in the fourth quarter to spark a 20-11 run and lead to victory over visiting SW/DV in an OCIAA Division V game. SW/NS led 28-27 at halftime. The teams were tied at 43 after three quarters. Chad Powell had 19 points for the Indians (4-3, 1-0 OCIAA). E.T. Toledo had 21 points and Bob Wayne had 11 points for SW/DV.

Roscoe (RCS) 52, The Family School 49

Brian Bury led with 16 points, eight rebounds and six steals for RCS (5-4, 2-0 OCIAA). Brian Bollard also led RCS with his score of 18 points and eight rebounds, Shawn Hendrickson scored 13 points, and Jeff Bury had five assists. Paul Williams and Sean Hogan each scored 14 points for The Family School (1-6, 0-2 OCIAA).

Fallsburg 63, Livingston Manor (LM) 45

Fallsburg’s John Hinton was the top scorer of the game with 16 points. Fallsburg also saw high scores from Don Fraiser with 13 and Darren Kenney with 11. Scott Denman had 10 points and 10 rebounds for LM. Also leading for the Wildcats (2-8) was Ryan Carlson with 12 points and Jason scored 11.

January 6

Goshen 59, Sullivan West – Jeffersonville Youngsville
(SW/JY) 57

It was close, really close, but Goshen pushed ahead to take the win over SW/JY. Mike O’Donnell scored 23 points, including 12-of-13 from the free-throw line, as host Goshen edged SW/JY in a non-league game.

Brad Bollinger scored 14 points and Terrence Gunter added 11 rebounds and four steals for Goshen (5-3). Gregg Semenetz scored 15 points and Jon Tanous had 14 for SW/JY (6-2).
