LiGreci steps in as Lumberland supervisor

By DAVID HULSE

GLEN SPEY — Councilman John LiGreci became Supervisor John LiGreci as the Town of Lumberland reorganized for the new year on January 3.

LiGreci, 50, was in his first term on the board when former Supervisor Paul Brennan announced his retirement from town government last month. LiGreci had the choice of remaining a councilman and serving as deputy supervisor until the next regular elections, but felt it was important for the town to have a complete management team. “For us to have 100 percent effort, I needed to resign and get another member,” he said.

A plastics commodities trader in Manhattan and co-owner of a Staten Island family catering business employing 100 people, LiGreci commutes daily but says his schedule is flexible and will allow his attending to town business as needed.

He is married to Linda Geba LiGreci and they are the parents of a 10-year-old daughter.

LiGreci becomes the third Lumberland supervisor in the past four years.

The councilman vacancy created by his resignation is to be filled in March. No candidates for the vacancy have yet come forward and the four-Republican board is looking for some new blood, LiGreci said. “It could be Democrat,” he added.

Councilman Faber Wilson, who won the election last fall, took his seat on the board Wednesday.

There was only one change in the town’s appointments and authorizations, as The River Reporter was named as the town’s official newspaper.

The appointments of the Planning Board chairman Alex Grech and vice-chairman Don Hunt were tabled without comment, and LiGreci said reappointment of the town’s seven constables would await resolution of a personnel issue.

The town board meets on the second Wednesday and the Monday prior to the second Wednesday, at 7:30 p.m. in the town hall on County Road 32.
