Bethel
revs up
for a new year
By CHRIS CONROY
BETHEL — Just barely making the required quorum, the
Bethel Town Board launched itself into the new year as the reorganization
meeting for the town was held on January 3.
Starting on January 25, regular meetings will be held
on the second and fourth Thursdays of the month at the Bethel Justice Court
in Kauneonga Lake. Also approved by the three members of the board present
(Supervisor Allan Scott, Robert Bonnaci, and Harold Russell) were the standard
appointments and designations required for the day-to-day running of the
town. Included in this list was the designation of all commercial banks
as official town banks, which will increase the chances of getting competitive
loan and interest rates, appointment of lawyers Walt Grigliano, Rob McCune
and Ed Cooke as town attorneys in their areas of expertise; and the re-designation
of The River Reporter as one of the town’s official newspapers.
Also approved by the board was a final draft of the town
employee labor contract, which is in the process of being agreed upon by
both sides of the negotiations.
Not able to make the meeting were board members Robert
Blais and Lynden Lilley.
