ERVIN H. BLUHM

TUNKHANNOCK - Ervin H. Bluhm of Tunkhannock, founder of Bluhm Insurance Agency in Tunkhannock and Honesdale, died Tuesday, October 17, 2000 at home. He was 75.

Son of the late Henry and Anna Harder Bluhm and stepson of the late Charlotte Broszeit Bluhm, he was born January 12, 1925 in Rock Springs, WY.

He was a graduate of Towanda High School class of 1943 and worked for Dupont in Towanda and Tuscorora Wayne Insurance in Wylausing. He was a member of the Tunkhannock Presbyterian Church, Triton Hose Company of Tunkhannock, Temple Lodge #248 F&AM, Keystone Consistory of Scranton and the Irem Temple Shrine. He was a long time member of the Irem Temple Country Club.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Louise Kreichbaum Bluhm; three sons, Jeffrey and wife Betsey, Gary and wife Beth, both of Tunkhannock, David and wife Allison of Honesdale; a daughter, Karen A. Brown and husband Jim of Tunkhannock; a brother, Gerald of Dallas, TX; 12 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by two brothers, Ernest and Albert and a sister, Ruth Hildreth.

Services were held at the Sheldon-Kukuchka Funeral Home Inc., in Tunkhannock. The Rev. Robert Hooper, pastor of the Tunkhannock Presbyterian Church officiated. Burial was in Sunnyside Cemetery in Tunkhannock.

WAYNE J. FRISBIE, SR.

HAWLEY - Wayne J. Frisbie, Sr. of Hawley, a 30-year serviceman for Suburban Propane Gas Co., died Tuesday, October 17, 2000 at the VA Medical Center in Wilkes-Barre. He was 72.

Son of the late Floyd Rufus and Caroline Dolph Frisbie, he was born in South Canaan.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in the Korean War. He was a volunteer for two years at Arden Hill Memorial Hospital in Goshen, NY.

Survivors include his wife, Rosie May Frisbie; three sons, Wayne J., Jr. and Steven E., both of Hawley, and Michael J. of New Hampton; a daughter, Pamela C. of Fawn lake Forest in Hawley; three sisters, June Brundage of Waymart, Phyliss Tregaskas of Waymart and Francise Montone of Fulton, NY; two brothers, Marshall of Venice, FL and George of Honesdale; 10 grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by a son, Jonathan L.; four sisters, Dorcuss VanSickle, Gladys Matthews, Jannette Pennell and Evelyn Toms; and a brother, Alfred.

Services were held at Teeters' East Chapel in Hawley. Cremation took place at H.G. Smith Crematory in Stroudsburg.

HELEN G. DENNERLEIN

NARROWSBURG - Helen Dennerlein of Narrowsburg, a retired salesperson for Alexander's Department Store and a 27-year area resident, died Wednesday, October 18, 2000 at Bon Secours Community Hospital in Port Jervis. She was 89.

Daughter of John Schneider and Martha A. Fowler Schneider, she was born December 26, 1910 in New York, NY. She was the widow of August Dennerlein.

Survivors include a nephew, Joseph of Long Island.

A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at St. Francis Xavier Roman Catholic Church in Narrowsburg. The Rev. Thomas Jones officiated. Burial was in the parish cemetery.

LOUISE MAIER FRACKE

WEST BLOOMFIELD, MI - Louise Maier Fracke of West Bloomfield, MI, formerly of Oak Ridge, NJ and a five-year area resident, died Thursday, October 19, 2000 at West Bloomfield Care Center in West Bloomfield. She was 86.

Daughter of the late Julius Maier and Lucinda Bauer Maier, she was born in Blooming Grove, Township, PA. She was the widow of Fred Fracke.

She attended the United Methodist Church in Milton, NJ. She was a member of the Oak Ridge Senior Citizens.

Survivors include two daughters, Nancy J. Kilner of Farmington, MI and Katherine Bannat of Lake Hopatcong, NJ; a son, Douglas of Cape Coral, FL; a brother, Joseph Maier of Washington; three sisters, Sylvia Sizemore of NC, Mary Plaskett of FL and Mabel Hazen of Blooming Grove in Hawley, PA; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Services were held at Teeters' East Chapel in Hawley. The Rev. David Heckler, pastor of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Hawley, officiated. Burial was in Green Gates Cemetery in Hawley.

MORRIS KATZOFF

LAKE HUNTINGTON - Morris Katzoff of Lake Huntington, Town Justice for the Town of Cochecton for 12 years, died Friday, October 20, 2000 in the Ellen Memorial Health Care Center in Honesdale, PA. He was 81.

Son of Samuel and Mary Katzoff, he was born November 6, 1919 in Detroit, MI.

He was the owner/operator of Katzoff's General Store in Lake Huntington where he was renowned for making the best freshly cured corned beef in Sullivan County. He was the organizer and first president of the Cochecton Volunteer Ambulance Corps, 55-year member of the Lake Huntington Fire Department, 35-year chairman of the Board of Fire Commissioners of the Cochecton Fire District; past chancellor of the Knights of Pythias Castle Hall of Mt. Vernon Lodge #5; and volunteer for the Office of the Aging.

Survivors include his wife, Elaine Werner Katzoff, at home; a son, Howard of Clarksville, MD; two daughters, Joanne Kraack of Lake Huntington and Barbara of Los Angeles, CA; two brothers, Solomon and wife Gertrude of Lake Huntington and Herbert and wife Doris of Syracuse; seven grandchildren, Jason, Jenna, Derin, Trisha, Lacey and Evan Kraack and Alexandra Katzoff.

He was predeceased by a daughter, Lynne Kraack and a brother, Bernard.

Services were held at the Joseph N. Garlick Funeral Home in Monticello. Rabbi Irwin Tanenbaum officiated. Burial was in the Jeffersonville Synagogue Cemetery.

JEAN 'JAN' KUPIEC

LIBERTY - Jean "Jan" Kupiec of Liberty, a 46-year area resident and a retired plumber for the Grossinger's Hotel, died Friday, October 13, 2000 at the Seelig Division of Community General Hospital in Harris. He was 83.

Son of the late Stanislas and Julia Mazur Kupiec, he was born May 12, 1917 in Poland.

He was a member of Local 269 Plumbers Union in Newburgh and a member of St. Peter's Church in Liberty. He served in the French Army during World War II as a military policeman.

Survivors include his wife, Wanda Kupiec of Liberty; two daughters, Genevieve Dainack of Forestburgh and Christiane Emery and husband Kenneth of Liberty; and four grandchildren, Dylan and Dustin Dainack and Travis and Zack Emery.

He was predeceased by four brothers.

A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at St. Peter's Church in Liberty. The Rev. Robert Bagnato officiated. Burial was in St. Peter's Cemetery in Liberty.

JULIA E. MEGIVERN

HONSDALE - Julia E. Megivern of Honesdale, a resident at the Birch Hills Residence Personal Care in Simpson, a retired employee of the Nathan Schwab's Knitting Mill in White Mills, died Wednesday, October 18, 2000 at the Moses Taylor Hospital in Scranton. She was 91.

Daughter of the late Albert and Elizabeth Farrell, she was born April 2, 1909 in Egypt in Wayne County. She was the widow of Eugene B. Megivern.

She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Parish in Honesdale.

Survivors include a son, Bernard and wife Agnes of Honesdale; two daughters, Florence Smith of Honesdale and Mae Rowe of Hawley; a brother, Louis Paynter of Honesdale; a sister, Marguerite Kneisel of Clarks Summit; 15 grandchildren; great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a daughter, Helen Bates and a son, Charles.

A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at St. Mary Magdalen's Church in Honesdale. Burial was in St. Cecelia's Cemetery in Hilltop.

MILTON L. PATTERSON

HONESDALE - Milton L. Patterson of Oregon Township in Honesdale, a former 46-year police officer with the Franklin Lakes, NJ Police Department and a nine-year area resident, died Sunday, October 15, 2000 at home. He was 90.

Son and last surviving member of the William and Alice Carlough Patterson family, he was born June 18, 1910 in Hawthorne, NJ.

He was a member of the Mason Lodge of Franklin Lakes, NJ; was a president for the Northern Police Revolver League for 22 years and was a firearms instructor for the NRA in New York and New Jersey.

Survivors include his wife, Mary C. Johnny; a son, Milton, Jr. of Ringwood, NJ and two daughters, Margaret Drumm of Wellfleet, MA and Susan Garden of Randolph Township, NJ.

He was predeceased by a brother, Lorne.

A memorial service was held in the Grace Episcopal Church in Honesdale. The Rev. F. Graham Cliff, pastor, officiated. Cremation took place at the Maple Hill at Salem Crematory in Archbald, PA.

WILLIAM B. PORTER, JR.

SOUTHBURY, CT. - William B. Porter, Jr, of Southbury, CT, a former summer resident of Cochecton, NY, a retired 44-year employee of Metropolitan Life Insurance Co. in New York City, died in Danbury CT on Friday, October 20, 2000. He was 83.

Son of William B. Porter, Sr. and Elizabeth Mulcahy Porter, he was born in Elizabeth, NJ and raised in Manhattan.

He had lived in Parkchester in the Bronx, Maybrook, NY and then Beach Lake, PA. He served in the army during World War II. He retired from Metropolitan as a manager in computer security for the electronic data processing department. He had been among the first to enter the computer field at Met Life in 1956, working with the early Uivac machines.

Survivors include his wife, Marie Reith Porter whose family, the Reiths and the Scotts, were early settlers of Cochecton Center and Callicoon Center; three sons, William B. III of Hopewell Junction, NY, Carl A., Sr., of Clarks Summit, PA, and George R. of Gloversville, NY; two daughters, Marie F. Seeger of Woodbury, CT and Jeanne P. Borowski of West Palm Beach, FL; and eight grandchildren.

LOUIS WICHINSKY

HURLEYVILLE - Louis "Lebel " Wichinsky of Hurleyville, an inventor and environmentalist with patents on a bagel making machine, bar-coded bullets and locking devices for vending equipment, died Saturday, October 14, 2000 at St. Clare's Hospital in Schenectady. He was 81.

Son of the late Jacob and Ida Wichinsky, he was a lifelong resident of Hurleyville. He was the widow of Claire Kandi Wichinsky.

He was an Army Air Force veteran of World War II and was stationed in England. He also served as an aircraft mechanic during Israel's fight for statehood in 1948. In recent years he worked with vegetable oil as an alternative to fossil fuels, which generated news coverage and documentaries throughout the U.S. and Europe.

Survivors include a son, Marc of Las Vegas, NE a daughter, Ceil Mack of Schenectady; a brother, Michael of Las Vegas, NE; two sisters, Freida Levine of Croton-on-Hudson and Pauline Petrin of West Orange, NJ; a grandson, Ian Mack of Schenectady; nieces and nephews.

Services were held at the Joseph N. Garlick Funeral Home in Monticello. Rabbi Irving Goodman officiated. Burial was in the Temple Beth-El Cemetery in Bethel.
