Bulldogs
vanquish Roscoe
By TOM KANE
ROSCOE - For
a short while, Sullivan West's Kevin Mullally couldn't do anything
against the Roscoe Blue Devils. "I was out of the game at first,"
he said.
You wouldn't
know it by his stats. Mullally ran 235 yards with three touchdowns
to bolster the Bulldog's 43-12 win over the Blue Devils last Saturday
at Roscoe.
Sullivan West
has an overall record of 5-2 and is 2-0 in the league. Roscoe's
record is 3-4 overall and 1-1 in the league.
Other Bulldog
touchdowns were from John Compton with two and Paul Barrett with
one.
Compton powered
through the goal line for a six-pointer and carried for 101 yards.
Bulldog quarterback
Bill Reichmann ran for 68 yards and completed two passes out of
four attempts. Steve Mootz ran for 21 yards.
Roscoe scored
near the end of the first half when Brian Ballard, who carried well
for the Blue Devils all day, advanced 70 yards for a touchdown,
outrunning the entire Bulldog secondary. The Sullivan West defense
kept him away from the goal line for the rest of the game.
Roscoe scored
again in the fourth quarter when quarterback Shawn Hendrickson spotted
Jeff Bury and hit him with a pass. Bury ran 20 yards into the goal.
Sullivan West
has two more games, Highland and O'Neill. A win against each would
make the Bulldogs division champions and send them on to sectionals.
One win will still get them to sectionals.
Roscoe
defeats Narrowsburg
AUSTIN MAKES 100TH
GOAL
By MARY GREENE
NARROWSBURG
- In girls soccer action the Roscoe Blue Devils took a win from
the Narrowsburg Indians on the Narrowsburg field Friday, October
13. Despite a goal and a penalty goal by Narrowsburg's Kim Jay in
the first half, Roscoe outscored the young team consistently, adding
four goals in the first half and four in the second. The final score
was 8-2.
The game was
highlighted by the achievement of Roscoe senior Danielle Austin,
who scored her 100th goal early in the second half. Austin has been
playing varsity soccer since seventh grade, but "I scored my first
goal in eighth," she said. Her mother, Mary Austin, has been coaching
the team for the past six years.
Roscoe goals
were scored by Amanda Huck, Rosie Miesier, Diana Faila, Kelly Ehart
(one apiece), and Austin, who had four. Roscoe is second to Seward
in the league, with a record of 9-5 overall and 5-1 OCIAA.
The ever-valiant
Narrowsburg field keeper Beth Meyer had five saves, while Roscoe's
goalie Chrissie Rosencranse had three.
Narrowsburg's
record in 2-11-1 overall, and 1-5 OCIAA. Narrowsburg coach Linda
Pomes said of the game, "[Roscoe] is a very good team-well coached
and highly skilled. The Narrowsburg players are becoming better
students of the game. They set their own goal for how they wanted
to do against Roscoe, and they didn't come too far off it."
Girls varsity
soccer runs through next week.
