- Margaret Mary McCarthy Ayres of Tafton, a housewife and 11-year
area resident, died Wednesday, October 11, 2000 in Mercy Hospice
in Scranton. She was 55.
Daughter
of the late William J. McCarthy and Mary Ruth Thompson McCarthy
she was born in Philadelphia.
She
was a member of Queen of Peace R.C. Church in Hawley.
Survivors
include her husband, William of Tafton; three sons, Rev. William
G., Jr. of Philadelphia, Michael A. of Scranton and Joseph of Tafton;
a daughter, Margaret of Tafton; six brothers, William J. of Moscow
and Robert A. of Drums, J. Michael of Philadelphia, Thomas of Ladson,
SC, Phillip of Upper Darby, PA and James of Bala Cynwyd, PA; a sister,
Ruthanne of Stratford, NJ; a grandson, Dominick; nieces and nephews.
A
funeral mass was offered at Queen of Peace R.C. Church in Hawley.
The Revs. William Ayres, Jr. and Concelebrant Rev. William B. Healey,
pastor, officiated. Burial was in the parish cemetery.

G. CRUSE, SR.
STERLING
TOWNSHIP - Charles G. Cruse, Sr. of Sterling Township, an 18-year
service manager for the Sun Auto Group, formerly the Abington Auto
in Clarks Summit, died Saturday, October 14, 2000 in the Mercy Hospice
in Scranton. He was 57.
Son
of the late G. Charles and Carolyn Cook Cruse, he was born in Peckville.
He
received his Associate's Degree in Business from Lackawanna Junior
College and completed courses with the Commercial Trade Institute
where he received his certification in Auto Mechanics. He was a
member of the Hollisterville Baptist Church. He belonged to the
Service Managers Club and the Moscow Lodge #504 Free and Accepted
Masons and was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force.
Survivors
include his wife, Rosemarie Scalsky; a daughter, Corinne Mosher
of Magnolia, DE; a son, Charles G., Jr. of Carbondale; a brother,
Kenneth of Kennett Square, PA; three grandsons; a granddaughter;
nieces and nephews.
He
was predeceased by a brother, James and a stepsister, Jean O'Connor.
Services
were held in the Brian Arthur Strauch Funeral Home in Spring Book
Twp. The Rev. William Henwood officiated. Burial was in Sterling
Cemetery.
RICHARD
B. DOWNS
LIBERTY
- Richard B. Downs of Liberty, a retired self-employed collision
expert in Queens and a 12-year area resident, died Tuesday, October
10, 2000 in the Walnut Mountain Care Center in Liberty. He was 79.
Son
of Samuel and Agnes O'Brien Downs, he was born November 17, 1920
in Trenton, NJ.
He
was a U.S. Army veteran during World War II from 1939 to 1945.
He
was a member of Liberty Elks Lodge #1545 and an assistant scoutmaster
for Troops 95 and 96 in Liberty.
Survivors
include his wife, Mary Mitchell Downs at home; two sons, Richard
B., Jr. and wife Marilyn of Equinunk, PA and Thomas M. and wife
Rose of Grahamsville; a daughter, Patricia at home; a sister, Marion
Hearn of New York City; and two grandsons, Mitchell Downs and Gregory
Allen U.S.A.F.
He
was predeceased by 13 brothers and sisters.
Services
were held at Ramsay's Funeral Home. The Rev. Francis Waite officiated.
Burial was in the Sullivan County Veterans Cemetery in Liberty.

EPPLEY
HONESDALE
- Elda Eppley of Honesdale, a former school teacher at the East
Cherry Ridge School, died Sunday, September 17, 2000 at Wayne Memorial
Hospital in Honesdale. She was 98.
Daughter
of the late Charles and Rosella Drumm Monington, she was born in
Damascus. She was the widow of Lester Eppley.
She
was a member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Honesdale.
She graduated from Damascus High School, Class of 1919 and the East
Stroudsburg Normal School.
Survivors
include a son, Melvin H. of Honesdale; nieces and nephews; a close
friend, Rachel James and her pet Cocker Spaniel, "Ebby."
A
graveside service was held in the Lutheran Cemetery. The Rev. Jon
Buxton officiated.

CALLICOON
- Antonio Esposito of Callicoon, a retired mechanic and a 21-year
area resident, died Wednesday, October 11, 2000 at the Grover M.
Hermann Division of Community General Hospital in Callicoon. He
was 69.
Son
of the late Sebastiano and Margaret Liberti Esposito, he was born
June 17, 1921 in Italy.
He
was a member of Holy Cross Church and the Delaware Council #4478,
Knights of Columbus, both in Callicoon.
Survivors
include his wife, Alfonsina "Frances" Bernadino Esposito at home;
two daughters, Margaret Porter and Cindy Eposito, both of Callicoon;
two sons, Antonio, Jr. of Bear, DE and Samuel of Littleton, CO;
a sister, Maria Marrotta of NJ; and eight grandchildren.

Mass of Christian Burial was offered at Holy Cross Church in Callicoon.
The Rev. Ignatius Smith, OFM, officiated. Burial was in Calvary
Cemetery in Youngsville.

SOUTHBOROUGH,
MA - Vincent Graziadio of Southborough, MA, a retired 20-year employee
of IBM, formerly of Hancock and Honesdale, died Wednesday, September
27, 2000.
He
was the son of the late Vincent and Rita Graziadio.
He
was a graduate of Hancock Central High School and Hartwick College
in New York. He served in the U.S. Army.
Survivors
include his wife, Joyce Graziadio; two sons, Vincent of St. Austine,
FL and Joseph of New York City; two daughters, Deborah Kutch of
Southborough and Christine Hostige of Framingham, MA; eight grandchildren;
a sister, Jane Weist of Honesdale; and a brother Mark of White Mills.

Honesdale
- Flora A. Maori Harendza of Honesdale, a former switchboard operator
at the Wayne Memorial Hospital in Honesdale, and a lifelong area
resident, died Tuesday, October 10, 2000 at Moses Taylor Hospital
Skilled Nursing Facility. She was 70.
Daughter
of the late Percy and Flora Lyons Amor, she was born August 11,
1930 in Honesdale.
She
was a graduate of Honesdale High School and Lackawanna Junior College.
She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Parish in Honesdale.
Survivors
include her husband, Edwin J. Harendza; three daughters, Melodieann
Whiteley of Rogers, AR, Margaret Banks of Honesdale and Mai Lei
Harendza of Dallas, TX; a sister, Mildred Amor of Honesdale; a brother-in-law,
John Borowski of Honesdale; five grandchildren; one great-granddaughter
and two nieces.
She
was predeceased by a sister, Jean Borowski.
Services
were held at the Hessling Funeral Home in Honesdale. The Very Rev.
Kevin P. Mulhern, pastor of St. John the Evangelist Parish, officiated.
Cremation followed.

SPEY - James A. Hoey of Glen Spey, a retired driver for Port Jervis
Trucking and Rupp's Southern Tier in Middletown and a lifelong area
resident, died Wednesday, October 11, 2000 at Bon Secours Community
Hospital in Port Jervis. He was 76.
Son
of the late Thomas and Margaret McGoey Hoey, he was born June 9,
1924 n Port Jervis.
He
was a member of St. Anthony's Church in Yulan; a 50-year member
of the Elks Lodge No. 645 in Port Jervis; and Teamsters Local No.
445 in Newburgh.
Survivors
include his wife Genevieve "Gene" Hoey at home; a brother, Thomas
of Santa Barbara, CA; four nephews, Thomas of Port Jervis, Mark
of Cedar Hill, TX, Dr. William McAveney of Leesburg, VA and Robert
McAveney of New Fairfield, CT; a niece, Kathleen Garwood of Santa
Barbara, CA; three cousins, John McGoey of Matamoras, PA, Thomas
McGoey of Port Jervis and Ann Brown of Port Jervis; nieces, nephews,

in Cochecton.

BEACH
LAKE - Olive Mallinson Kaiser of Beach Lake, formerly of Wayne,
died in a car accident on Wednesday, October 11, 2000. She was 71.
She
was the widow of Frank Kaiser.
She
was retired from the Wayne Township Board of Education from 1965-1992.
She was a member of the Eastern Star and Saint Paul's Lutheran Church.
She also volunteered with the local PTA and Cub Scout Troop. She
was currently employed by Woodloch Pines as a babysitter.
Survivors
include Chuck Otten, Patterson, NJ; Janice Ottens, Ringwood, NJ;
Laurel Kidd, Ringwood; Phyllis Reeder, Beach Lake, PA; and Kathleen
Sadiwnyk, Lake Shawnee, NJ; and eight grandchildren.
Visiting
hours were at M. John Scanlan Funeral Home, Newark Prompton Turnpike
at Route 23, Prompton Plains.

P. NONNENMACHER
Hawley
- Frank P. Nonnenmacher of Hawley, a former lathe operator for the
White Mills Handle Factory which became the Worth Bat Company where
he made Louisville Slugger Baseball bats, died Saturday, September
30, 2000 at the Ellen Memorial Health Care Center.
Last
surviving son of the Joseph and Katherine Geendlinger Nonnenmacher
family, he was born March 11, 1903 at Swamp Brook in Wayne County.
He was the widower of Violet Cosgrove.
He
was a former member of St. Joseph's Parish in White Mills and the
White Mills Fire Company. He was a 50-year member of the Knights
of Saint George and a member of the Queen of Peace Parish in Hawley
for the past 36 years.
Survivors
include a daughter, Joan E. Beilman and husband Edmund of Hawley;
five grandchildren, Gary, James and Carl Beilman, Marie Sauter and
Tracy Vennie; seven great-grandchildren, Andrew Sauter, Ryan, Corie,
Jamie, Scott and Mark Beilman and Hannah Vennie; nieces and nephews.
He
was predeceased by two brothers, Ferdinand and Julius; and a sister,
Loretta Aug.
A
Mass of Christian Burial was offered at Queen of Peace Church in
Hawley. Burial was in Indian Orchard Cemetery in Texas Township.
JOHN
R. PAVY
NAPLES,
FL and SHOHOLA, PA - John R. Pavy of Naples, FL and Shohola, PA,
former owner of the Penguin Inn in Clifton, NJ and later owner with
his wife of Vinton's Country House Restaurant, died Wednesday, October
11, 2000. He was 75.
Son
of John and Veronica Pavy, he was born October 29, 1924 in Garfield,
NJ.
He
served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and attended Georgetown
University upon his return. He was a member of American Legion Post
#135, Collier County Association of the Blind and Sunshine Investors.
He was a member of the Southwest Florida Chef's Association.
Survivors
include his wife, Trisha Pavy; three daughters, Lisa Leamon and
husband Scott; Allyson D'Urgolo and husband Alfred, Kimberley Koptak
and husband Gary; two granddaughters, Haley Koptak and Autumn Choka;
and a grandson, Alfred D'Urgolo.

- Arthur Rodgers, Sr. of Monticello, a member and ordained deacon
of the Little Grove Holiness Church in Woodridge, died Sunday, October
8, 2000. He was 53.
Son
of the late Boley and Nancy Rodgers, he was born August 11, 1947
in Beaufort County, NC.
He
attended Williamston High School and was employed by the Monticello
School District for many years.
Survivors
include his wife, Hazel Godley Rodgers at home; three brothers and
two sisters-in-law; his twin brother, Robert; two sisters and brothers-in-law;
five sons; three daughters; five granddaughters; a grandson; aunts,
uncles, nieces and nephews.
Services
were held at King's Chapel in Monticello. Bishop T.E. Ward officiated.
Burial was in Rock Ridge Cemetery in Monticello.
EUGENE
L. STINNARD
HONESDALE
- Eugene L. Stinnard of Honesdale, a retired employee of Katz Underwear
Company, died Wednesday, October 11, 2000 at Wayne Memorial Hospital.
He was 70.
Son
of Irene G. Davis Stinnard and the late Albert J. Stinnard, he was
born December 19, 1929 in Honesdale.
He
attended the Methodist Church.
Survivors
include his wife, Anna Mae Meyers Stinnard; his mother of Honesdale;
a daughter, Judy DeRoss of Honesdale; three brothers, Edward and
Garold, both of Boyertown and Lester of Honesdale; a sister Charlotte
Jonahs; 11 grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
He
was predeceased by a sister, Margaret I. Lawrence and two brothers,
Flayed and Donald.
Burial
was in the Indian Orchard Cemetery at the family's convenience.
