Lumberland looks to cut budget costs

By DAVID HULSE

GLEN SPEY - The Lumberland Town Board's tentative $1,552,504 budget for 2001, if approved without change, would represent a 15 percent cut in town spending. The tax levy from the tentative budget would amount to $1,246,969.

Several town residents advised the board that spending be shifted to the highway department, either at the expense of the fire department or constable's appropriations.

The proposed reduction offsets new taxes absorbed last year to fund two new highway trucks and closure of the old town landfill.
