WESTFALL TOWNSHIP
- The newly formed Tri-State Unity Coalition is taking its show
on the road. The group, in conjunction with Delaware Valley High
School's (DV) Student Council, will present a public viewing of
the video "Stop the Hate with Harmony" in the DV auditorium on Wednesday,
October 25 at 7:00 p.m.
The 24-minute
video, produced by the PA Human Relations Commission, features real-life
incidents of hate crimes that have occurred in the state as well
as workable solutions, said Rosanne Kolberg, organizer of the coalition.
On October 17
Kolberg met with Pike County Commissioners to preview the video.
"All three have pledged support to the cause," she said. During
the planning phase of the coalition the Commissioners were one of
the first groups to sign a proclamation in favor of human rights,
according to Kolberg.
"We are totally
behind these types of groups," said Commissioner Harry Forbes at
the coalition's organizational meeting. "We're a community that
cares."
The coalition
also hopes to provide a copy of the video to Delaware Valley's Parent
Teacher Student Association (PTSA) prior to the public showing and
to invite the group to co-present, Kolberg said.
The coalition
provided the video to DV School Board Supervisor Dr. Candis Finan
during the board's October 12 meeting. The tape has been returned
with no feedback from Finan or the board, according to Kolberg.
Finan was unavailable for comment.
The video presentation
is free and open to the public. For more information call 570/686-4065
or visit the coalition's new website at
