Cornell honors Sorensen

MONTICELLO - Alan Sorensen, Sullivan County's Planning and Community Development Commissioner, was honored on October 5 with the Cornell Cooperative Extension's presentation of it's 2000 Friend of Extension Award.

The award, referred to as the Extension's "Oscar," is a statewide competition among those nominated for their efforts in "strengthening the economic and social vitality of communities." It was presented in Ithaca by Cornell president Hunter R. Rawlings III and Extension director D. Merrill Ewert.

Sorensen, who was raised on a farm, was recognized for achievements, including his development of Sullivan County's Main Street Redevelopment Center, the complimentary "Incubator without walls" business grants program and his work on the Route 97 Scenic Byway nomination.
