dead in hit-and-run

FRENCHWOODS
- A 17-year-old dirt biker was struck and killed by a pickup truck
on Frenchwoods Road, just off Route 97 in the hamlet of Frenchwoods
on Saturday, September 30.
According to
state police at Deposit, Steven Stonebrink of Oakridge, New Jersey,
was traveling Frenchwoods Road on an unlicensed dirt bike, when
29-year-old Allen Conkling of Long Eddy crossed over the center
line of the road and struck the biker. The incident occurred around
3:00 p.m. in the afternoon.
Stonebrink
was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital. He was wearing
a helmet at the time of the incident.
Conkling, who
fled the scene, was charged with leaving the scene of a fatal accident,
a felony; failure to keep right, a violation; and aggravated unlicensed
operator, third degree, a misdemeanor. He was arraigned in the Town
of Hancock Court and remanded to the Delaware County Jail on $5,000
bail or $10,000 bond.
