'winter-like' weather predicted
MONTICELLO
- Colder tempertatures and more snow is the long-term weather forecast
received by the Sullivan County Department of Public Works.
DPW Commissioner
Peter Lilholt said a private forecasting firm his department uses,
The National Weather Station, recently issued its six-month forecast
"based on previous long-term and current weather patterns."
Generally,
the forecast is for colder-than-average temperatures and above-normal
snowfall.
The forecast
calls for a colder October with some flurries, but no significant
snow. November is expected to be markedly colder and produce the
season's first significant snow storm in the latter half of the
month.
Three snow
and ice "events" are predicted in December, in the first and second
weeks, and again toward the end of the month, while January is expected
to be an above-normal snow producer. Temperatures are predicted
to be near normal in both months, but "drastic temperature swings"
are predicted in January.
We're to get
a break in February, with lower-than-normal snowfall and higher-than-normal
temperatures. March is expected to be "near normal" in precipitation
and temperatures, with "a few major events possible."
