Unity Coalition targets hate on the web

Former neo-nazi recruiter speaks out

EAST STROUDSBURG - The Unity Coalition of the Poconos along with East Stroudsburg University and the four Monroe County Public School Districts will present the first conference to be held in Pennsylvania on hate group activity and recruitment on the Internet. The conference is scheduled for October 13 and 14 at the Stroudsburg Junior High School.

The event will open on Friday evening at 8:00 p.m. in the Junior High School auditorium with a former neo-nazi recruiter as the keynote speaker. This event is free and open to the public with a question and answer period to follow. Saturday's events are reserved for high school teachers and ESU students majoring in education. Pre-registration is required by Saturday, September 30. Educators registering for the workshop should plan to attend both Friday and Saturday. Teachers will have an opportunity to earn ACT 48 continuing education hours by attending all sessions.

According to organizers, the anticipated outcome of this Hate on the Web conference is for teachers and pre-teachers to apply what they have learned in their classrooms and then share these experiences with their peers at a follow-up workshop, entitled Sharing Success: Teaching Acceptance in the Classroom, to be held in the Spring.
