DEP says 'Pine Forest Camp is okay'

By KRISTA GROMALSKI

GREELEY - The test results on samples taken by the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) on treated waste from Pine Forest Camps' sewerage plant are in and the chemical and nutrient levels "look good," according to Mark Carmon, communications coordinator of the DEP.

"The camp is well within its permit levels," Carmon said.

The only glitch at the treatment facility was a malfunctioning chlorinator connection, according to Leonard Nawrocki of the DEP who performed the August 1 site inspection. Nawrocki said while he was on the premises Pine Forest was in the process of running electricity to a new aerator that would correct the problem.

Nawrocki visited the camp following questions from a Greeley resident to the Pike County Conservation District. The resident was concerned about the large amount of aquatic vegetation on Lake Greeley.

Pine Forest has a permit from the DEP allowing its treatment facility to drain into the Greeley Watershed.
