JOSEPH
GOLD
MONTICELLO
- Joseph Gold of Monticello and Marina Del Rey, CA, a trial lawyer
for over 50 years with practices in New York City, Great Neck, Monticello
and Woodridge, died Sunday, August 27, 2000 at home. He was 72.
Son
of the late Murray and Shirley Ganson Gold, he was born November
13, 1928 in Brooklyn.
He
was a graduate of St. John's University and Brooklyn Law School.
He was a World War II US Army veteran. He was an active member of
Temple Shalom in Monticello; former president of the Sullivan County
Bar Association, a prior member of the House of Delegates of the
New York State Bar Association, and was listed in Who's Who of American
Law. He was also an Eagle Scout and a member of the Order of the
Arrow.
Survivors
include his wife, Gladys Guss Gold of Monticello and Marina Del
Rey, CA; a daughter, Sherry Gold and husband Gary Oberstein of Los
Angeles, CA; three sons, Steven and wife Susan of Westport, CT,
Richard and partner Brian Segel of New York, and Lauren and Farhad
Marvasti of Westlake Village, CA; and eight grandchildren.
He
was predeceased by a sister, Adrienne Diane Gold Huberman.
Services
were held at the Joseph N. Garlick Funeral Home in Monticello. Burial
was in the Old Montefiore Cemetery in Springfield Gardens.
WILLIAM
HENRY HOLMES, SR.
CALLICOON
- William Henry Holmes, Sr. of Callicoon, a bus drier at Villa Roma
Resort in Callicoon, died Thursday. August 31, 2000 at Westchester
Medical Center in Valhalla. He was 55.
Son
of William and Bertha Howard Holmes, he was born January 2, 1945
in the Bronx.
A
U.S. Navy Veteran, he was a member of the American Legion Post #0001.
He attended Sullivan County Community College for Food & Hotel Technology.
He was also a bus driver for the Sullivan County Democrat.
Survivors
include his wife, Joanne Caruso Holmes, at home; a son, William,
Jr. of Callicoon; two daughters, Louise Murphy of Rosoe and Tammy
Ellis of Cochecton; grandchildlren; nieces and nephews.
He
was predeceased by a daughter, Theresa Redmond.
Cremation
was at Cedar Hill Crematory in Newburgh.

RAYMOND
P. MYERS
BETHANY
- Raymond P. Myers of Bethany, a retired welder for the Loomis and
Yuba Companies in Honesdale, died Saturday, August 26, 2000 at Wayne
Memorial Hospital in Honesdale. He was 81.
Son
of the late John and Mae Menner Myers, he was born April 7, 1919
in Honesdale.
He
was a U.S. Air Force Veteran of World War II and a member of the
Bethany United Methodist Church.
He
was an avid baseball player and fan.
Survivors
include his wife, Romaine Harvey Myers; a daughter, Beverly LaTourette
and husband Victor of Honesdale; two granddaughters, Tammy Ace of
Beach Lake and Linda Pezzuti of East Stroudsburg; a grandson, Kevin
LaTourette of Greenville, NC; six great-grandchildren; two sisters,
Dorothy Reafler of Hawley and Edna Tiffany of Binghamton, NY; nieces
and nephews.
He
was predeceased by nine brothers, Herman, Charles, John, Harold,
Louis, Joseph, Fred, Robert and Kenneth; and three sisters, Kathryn
Southerton, Rose Sheridan and Margaret Lilholt.
Services
were held in the Bethany United Methodist Church. The Rev. Jon Buxton
officiated. Burial was in the Bethany Cemetery.

CARL
GUSTAV SCHLUER
NARROWSBURG
- Carl Gustav "Gus" Schluer of Narrowsburg, retired owner and operator
of Schluer's store in Lava and a gifted sign painter, an area resident
since 1945, died Thursday, August 31, 2000 at Ellen Memorial Health
Care Center in Honesdale. He was 93.
Son
of Georg and Bertha Aldach Schluer, he was born May 6, 1907 in Germany.
He
was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church and a former financial
secretary of the church; a member and former secretary of the Lava
Fire Department; and a former board member of the Glen Cove Cemetery
Association.
Survivors
include his wife, Anna, at home; three daughters, Helen Fraser of
Monticello, Marion Roche and husband Maurice of Callicoon and Carol
Seidel and husband Robert of Binghamton, a son George L. and wife
Christine of Narrowsburg; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren;
nieces and nephews.
Services
took place at Rasmussen Sons Inc. Funeral Home in Narrowsburg. The
Rev. Phyllis Haynes officiated. Cremation took place at Twin Tiers
Crematory in Endicott. Burial was in Glen Cove Cemetery in Narrowsburg.

RUTH
STANTON
MONGAUP
VALLEY - Ruth E. Stanton of Mongaup Valley, a homemaker and lifelong
area resident, died Monday, August 28, 2000 at the home of her son
in Swan Lake. She was 88.
Daughter
of the late Thornton and Minnie Daudt Crumley, she was born in Fraser
Settlement (Town of Bethel) on August 16, 1912. She was the widow
of Roy Stanton.
She
was a member of the Mongaup Valley United Methodist Church; the
Bethel Senior Citizens and the American Association of Retired Persons.
Survivors
include a son, Lowell and wife Eunice of Swan Lake; three daughters,
Marion Vassmer of Kauneonga Lake, Barbara Weiss and husband Norman
of Kauneonga Lake and Yvonne Cunningham of Swan Lake; eight grandchildren;
15 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
She
was predeceased by a brother, Chester "Chet" Crumley.
Services
were held at the Mongaup Valley United Methodist Church in Mongaup
Valley. The Rev. Richard Rodgers officiated. Burial was in Union
Cemetery in Mongaup Valley.

ZIMMERMAN
HONESDALE
- Alberta Zimmerman of Honesdale, a retired 20-year Bell Telephone
Operator, died Sunday, August 27, 2000 at Wayne Memorial Hospital
in Honesdale. She was 81.
Daughter
of the late Samuel F. Zimmerman and Mary Ager Zimmerman, she was
born October 2, 1918 in Pottsville.
She
was a member of St. John the Evangelist Parish and its Altar and
Rosary Society in Honesdale, but was especially fond of St. Mary
Magdelan's Church.
Survivors
include two sisters, Marie McDougal of Phoenix, AZ and Mildred Zimmerman
of Honesdale; two nephews and many friends.
She
was predeceased by a brother, William Zimmerman.
A
Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated in St. Mary Magdelan's Church
in Honesdale. The Rev. Andrew Sinnott officiated. Burial was in
the Yorkville Cemetery in Pottsville, PA.
