Work in
progress
By DAVID HULSE
HIGH POINT
-- The war memorial obelisk at New Jersey's High Point State Park,
pictured here surrounded by workers scaffolding, has been closed
to visitors this season while some restoration efforts have taken
place.
Port Jervis
historian Peter Osborne, who is writing a book on the depression
era Civilian Conservation Corps role in building the park, said
the 70-year-old monument has always suffered from moisture control
problems inside and part of the work is the installation of measures
to control moisture. Masons are also repainting the exterior stonework.
The rest of
the scenic park is open as usual.
