Bargains galore
at town-wide garage sale
By TOM KANE
NARROWSBURG
-- Down on the Narrowsburg flats last Saturday, Cathy Hector sold
a Super-Nintendo game for $40. Her son, Eric, wasn't unhappy about
it because he was getting a Sony Play Station to replace it.
Hester Green
from Damascus sold an old Singer sewing machine for $25.
The event was
the Narrowsburg Town-Wide Garage Sale.
The Avon Lady,
Jo Garrity, got rid of a lot of products. "We used to have the sale
in the town hall and it was better," she said.
Barbara Sarnoff
from New York City got a couple of good deals. A hand-painted dish
which she paid for and a golden ashtray which she got for free.
Tom Darby from
Milanville sold a lot of tools and furniture. "It was a very good
day, a good turn-out," he said.
"We burned
to a crisp but made several hundred dollars," said June Waterston
with her sister Janet, both from New York City and Callicoon.
The sale was
sponsored by the Narrowsburg Chamber of Commerce. "It's the third
year in a row we did this," said Chamber member Kevin McDonough
who attended with his wife, Kay.
In addition
to the flats, sales were held in front of homes throughout the town.
The chamber
charged sellers $10 and promoted the event with fliers and newspaper
advertisements, provided directional signals and listed it on the
Internet.
