| Students
hit the books as construction misses deadline

WESTFALL TOWNSHIP
- Delaware Valley (DV) high school and middle school students returned
to classes on August 28 with a few loose ends still flapping on
the construction of physical education and administration facilities.
The DV School
Board, during their regular meeting last Thursday, heard facilities
updates from Jeff Aangstadt and Don Flynn, both project managers,
and Mike Arnold, vice president of operations for foreman project
and construction managers. The trio's presentation included a video
taped tour of the construction site.
The completion
date is six to seven days behind schedule, according to Supervisor
Candis Finan.
Arnold blamed
the delay on a lack of manpower during the summer and said his company
is preparing a document on the construction's progress for submission
to the board and its solicitor "to review and determine if further
action is necessary."
A site inspection
by the Department of Labor and Industry was set for August 31. If
all went well, an occupancy permit would be granted. "The [football]
team can move in following that," said Finan.
In other business
the board approved the transfer of $250,0000 from the 1999-2000
general fund to the capital reserve fund. "Once we finish construction
we will need a healthy capital reserve," Finan said. "It's a better
time to move it now than at budget time."
