ECS sports boosters back football program

By DAVID HULSE

ELDRED - Coming through Eldred midday on Saturday there was a lot of unusual activity to be seen at the school parking lot as well as down on the four corners as ECS Boosters were out fundraising for the football program.

A car wash and a coin drop raised approximately $1,400 by mid-afternoon. The money will go to supplement budgeted equipment funding for the JV football program, which is highlighting ECS football this year. Feeling the turnout for the team would be too small to carry a varsity program, ECS last season dropped the varsity schedule.

The Boosters are also funding the team's participation at a three-day football camp, held annually at Brookwood Camps in Glen Spey. This year's camp is sponsored by Miami Dolphins quarterback Jay Fiedler and his brother, Scott.

Donations are also being raised through a football yearbook the Boosters have been preparing. While the yearbook ads are now mostly subscribed, Eva Martin said back-page advertising is still being accepted. For more information about the yearbook advertising call Sandy Walter at 845/557-6493.

The yearbook is to be completed in time for the squad's first game, at home, scheduled for 4:30 p.m. on September 6 against Tri-Valley.
