$20,000 granted for riverfront park

By TOM KANE

NARROWSBURG - Town of Tusten officials announced last Monday at its board meeting that the town has received a grant of $20,000 to construct a proposed park on the Delaware River, next to and beneath the bridge to Pennsylvania.

The money came from the state through Senator John Bonacic, Tusten Supervisor Dick Crandall said.

The town will erect a guard rail at the site for safety, will grade and seed the area and erect a gazebo at the point where the supports to the old covered bridge still are located.

The park will be called the Tusten Veterans Memorial Park.

In other town business, Crandall told board members that the Sumner Group, developers of Weiden Lake Estates, asked that the town eventually take over the two-mile stretch of roads they are currently building. Board members felt that the town should comply as long as the new roads are being constructed in accordance with town specifications. "The development is a real plus for the town, so why not do it," said town councilman Charlie Knapp.

The meeting was recessed until 7:30 p.m. Monday, August 21 to award bids.
