In celebration of summer

By SOFIA SINGHER

In celebration of the publication of "Gatherings," an anthology of their recent work, the Upper Delaware Writers Collective will give a public reading at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday August 26. Members of the group are local writers, and their work is colored with images and experiences specific to the Delaware Valley region.

The Collective meets monthly in classic workshop fashion, learning about their craft, as well as their process, as they share their writing and offer feedback and support. "Gatherings" will be a reading must for all who love poetry and creative prose. Its publication will perhaps stimulate and encourage other writers to keep writing and other readings to take place.

The celebration will be held upstairs at the Delaware Arts Center, 37 Main Street in Narrowsburg, NY. A reception will follow. Copies of "Gatherings" will be available for purchase and donations for the reading will be gratefully accepted. Information: 845/887-4989.

The Catskill Fly Fishing Center & Museum will hold Summerfest, a fair featuring antique and contemporary fly fishing equipment and accessories, on August 26 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. While you are there, fish in the historic Beaverkill, hike the nature trail, have a picnic or just sit on their porch and enjoy the view. The Center is on Old Route 17 in Livingston Manor, NY. Free. Information: 845/439-4810.

The Fort Delaware Museum of Colonial History presents Spin-off, Woodland Weavers & Spinners Guild, a demonstration of spinning methods and materials, on August 26. Fort Delaware, a reconstruction of a 1755-1785 stockade, is dedicated to the early settlers of the Delaware Valley. It is a great place to spend time watching demonstrations of candlemaking, weaving and musket firing. The Fort is located on Route 97 in Narrowsburg, NY. Information: 845/252-6660.
