DAMASCUS - Two years after a flawed resurfacing job on Atco Road
by the Suit-Kote Company and three months after the town board voted
to move ahead on resurfacing, the Damascus board postponed the project.
"We can't afford to put down topping on the road at this time,"
said Supervisor Stan Kuta, "so it doesn't make sense to begin a
work which we can't finish."
Suit-Kote has agreed to partly redo the road by grinding up the
surface to prepare it for final finish. The state, through the Agility
Program, which rewards the town's care of state roads, will lay
down tar and chipping without charge.
At this time the town will be responsible for final surfacing.
"We'll finish it next year when we have some money," Kuta said.
Many residents at the meeting asked that Suit-Kote pay for the
entire project.
In other matters, the board will vote on the proposed junk yard
and garbage ordinance at a special meeting on July 24 at 7:00 p.m.
in the Town Hall.
A public hearing on the Princetown Tower Company's request to erect
a tower is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. on August 2. The hearing will
also discuss a request for a kennel license.
The board also approved a bid from a company to begin reconstruction
and expansion of the town offices. The work will begin in a few
weeks.
