PAUL BUEHLER

PAUPACK - Paul B. Buehler of Paupack, a former 31-year Palmyra Township supervisor, and owner/operator of Buehler's Idlewild Inn, died Wednesday, June 7, 2000 at Wayne Memorial Hospital in Honesdale. He was 74.

Son of William and Louise Timmerman Buehler, he was born in Honesdale.

He was a member of Paupack United Methodist Church. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

He was educated at Susquehanna University. He was a board member of the Lake Wallenpaupack Watershed Management District; director of the Paupack-Pine Grove Cemetery Association; and a member of the American Legion Post 784 in Paupack.

Survivors include his wife, Virginia Blough Buhler; a daughter, Stephanie Hill of Reading; a son, Scott of Hawley; a grandson, Brandon Hill of Reading; and a sister, Meta of Richmond, VA.

Services were held at the Paupack United Methodist Church. The Rev. Robert B. Kovik-Campbell, pastor, officiated. A private burial was held at Old Paupack Cemetery in Paupack.

KARL D. EBERS

ELDRED - Karl D. Ebers of Eldred, a retired teacher and principal for the Eldred Central School in Eldred and a lifelong area resident died Wednesday, June 21, 2000 at home. He was 88.

Son of Carl D. and Anna Mehle Ebers, he was born June 11, 1912 in New Hamburg.

He was a graduate of Rhinebeck High School; received a BA degree in education from Albany State College; and received his master's degree from Cornell University. He began teaching in Callicoon and became principal of the Eldred Central School District in 1942 and remained until his retirement in 1971.

He was a member of the Eldred Congregational Church in Eldred; a 50-year member and past patron of River Valley Chapter #33 O.E.S.; past district Grand Lecturer of the Orange-Rockland District O.E.S.; member of the Delaware Lodge of Masons F.&A.M. in Callicoon; a 50-year member of the Yulan Fire Department; former trustee of the Sullivan County Community College; and a member of the New York State Retired Teachers Association.

Survivors include his wife, Frances Persbaker Ebers; a son, Herbert C. and wife Judy of Crystal River, FL; a daughter, Barbara Michael of Rhinebeck; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a niece.

Services were held at the Knight-Auchmoody Funeral Home in Port Jervis. The Rev. Richard Hotzler officiated. Burial was in Montoza Cemetery in Eldred. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Orange & Sullivan, 800 Stony Brook Court, Newburgh, NY 12550.

GERALD FRITZ

HONESDALE - Gerald Fritz of Honesdale, a former partner with Fritz Brothers Welldrilling, Inc. a lifelong area resident, died Thursday, June 22, 2000 at home. He was 65.

Son of the late George F. and Mildred Herrman Fritz, he was born September 15, 1934 in Honesdale.

He attended Honesdale Catholic School. He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Parish in Honesdale. He was a member of the Texas Rod & Gun Club; the Perkins Pond Hunting & Fishing Club; an honorary member of the Palace Rod & Gun Club; and was a member of the National Groundwater Association.

Survivors include his wife, Deanna Fritz; two daughters, Deborah Fritz and Marjorie Tamblyn, both of Honesdale; four sons, Gary J., Randy G. and Grant T., all of Honesdale, and Daniel T. of New Castle, CO; two step-sons, Richard and Scott Achenback, both of New Hampshire; three brothers, Charles, George "Bucky" and Carl, all of Honesdale; six sisters, Miriam Frisch of Honesdale, Janet Michael of Moscow, Carol McGinnis of Newton, NJ, Susan Ridd, Connie Carmody and Karen Johnson, all of Honesdale; grandchildren Megan and Dustin Fritz, Jeffrey, Zachary and Natalie Tamblyn, Ryan and Brett Fritz; an aunt, Jeanne Herrman of Honesdale; nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a brother, Michael and two sisters, Barbara Fritz and Jo Ann Nell.

A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at St. John the Evangelist Church in Honesdale. Burial was in the parish cemetery.

MARGARET JOHNSON

BEACH LAKE - Margaret Johnson of Beach Lake, formerly of Long Eddy died Saturday, June 24, 2000 at Wayne Memorial Hospital in Honesdale. She was 77.

Daughter of the late Thomas and Hazel Furgeson Coddington, she was born July 1, 1922 in East Branch, NY. She was the widow of Raymond E. Johnson Sr.

Survivors include a son, Raymond E. of Long Eddy, NY; seven daughters, Linda Porter of Hankins, NY, Margaret Todd of Callicoon, NY, Elizabeth Brush of Winterdale, PA, Rosalie Gillow of Beach Lake, Brenda Hornbeck of Claryville, NY, Connie Shea of Long Eddy, NY and Angela of Honesdale; three sisters, Bertha Speenburg of Sanford, NY, Anna Deck of Long Eddy, NY and Thelma Leroy of Hancock; 14 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by a son Dale and a daughter Ruby.

Services were held at the Stewart-Murphy Funeral Home in Callicoon, NY. The Rev. Doris Tietjan officiated. Burial was in Halsey Cemetery in Long Eddy, NY.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Damascus Township Ambulance Corps or the Tusten Volunteer Ambulance in Narrowsburg.

GEORGE KNECHT

ELIZABETHTOWN, PA - George Knecht of Masonic Homes in Elizabethtown, PA, formerly of Hawley, a retired Toolmaker, Tool & Die, Walter Kidde Co., died Friday, June 23, 2000 in Elizabethtown. He was 85.

Son of the late Theodore Knecht and Edith Smith Knecht, he was born in Edwardsville. He was the widower of Mildred Graff Knecht.

He was a Methodist and a member of Hawley Lodge #305 Free & Accepted Masons. He received his 50-year Masonic pin in 1997.

Survivors include two sons, Charles Theodore of Elberon, NJ and George Nowel of Atascadero, CA; nieces and nephews.

Private Masonic services were held at Honesdale Lodge #218.

MICHAEL WAYNE PAYTON

HAWLEY - Michael Wayne Payton of Hawley, a student at Wallenpaupack Area High School, and a two-year area resident, died Saturday, June 24, 2000 at Wayne Memorial Hospital in Honesdale. He was 18.

Son of Robert Payton and Theresa Seales Payton, he was born in Huntsville. AL.

Survivors include his mother of Hawley; his father of Tennessee; a sister, Jamie of Hawley; a grandmother, Florence Seales of Massapequa, NY; grandfather, Travis Wimberly of Huntsville, AL; uncles, an aunt, a niece and cousins.

Services were held at Teeters' East Chapel in Hawley. The Rev. William B. Healey, pastor, officiated. Burial was at Green Gates Cemetery in Hawley.

Memorial contributions may be made to Muscular Dystrophy Association.

IRMA G. RUPP

MONTICELLO - Irma G. Rupp of Monticello, former owner and operator of both Irma's' Sport Shop in Monticello and the Candy Cone ice Cream Stand in White Lake, died Friday, June 16, 2000 at the Horton Medical Center in Middletown. She was 79.

Daughter of the late Moses and Etta Palmer Hammond, she was born March 8, 1921, in Woodridge. She was the widow of Robert A. Rupp Sr.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Monticello, and a past president of the Ladies Elks of Lodge #1544 in Monticello.

Survivors include a daughter, Candace Nutty of Albion; a son, Robert A. Jr.; three grandchildren, Kim, Amanda and Corey; a great-grandson, Kyle; nieces and nephews.

Services were held at VanInWegen-Kenny Funeral Home in Monticello. The Rev. Rosemary Smith officiated. Burial was in Rock Ridge Cemetery in Monticello.

FRIEDA J. WILLIAMS

KAUNEONGA LAKE - Frieda J. Williams of Kauneonga Lake, a retired customer service representative for AT&T in Monticello and a longtime area resident, died Thursday, June 22, 2000 in Bassett Healthcare, Cooperstown. She was 79.

Daughter of Joseph S. and Cecil Alexander Clark, she was born August 18, 1920 in Burlington, PA. She was the widow of Merle Williams.

She was a member of the Community United Methodist Church in Kauneonga Lake; Telephone Pioneers; and Ladies Auxiliary to Sgt. Andrew Brucher Memorial Post #5499 VFW in White Lake.

Survivors include a son, Bruce of Greeley, CO; a daughter, Joann Nordlie of Monticello; a brother Charles Clark of Saugus, CA; a sister, Geraldine Layman of Norwich, CA; two grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Services were held in the Community United Methodist Church, in Kauneonga Lake. The Rev. David Coon officiated. Burial was in Sullivan County Veterans Cemetery in Liberty.
