GERTRUDE M. CHRISTIAN

MOUNT HOLLY, NJ - Gertrude M. Christian of Mount Holly, NJ, formerly of Honesdale, died Thursday, June 15, 2000 at the Cinnaminson Center in Cinnaminson, NJ. She was 81.

Daughter of the late William F. and Mary Kester Clark Sr., she was born August 25, 1918 at Lackawaxen, PA.

She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Parish in Honesdale.

Survivors include a son, Garth and wife Maureen of Mount Holly, NJ; a sister, Patricia McKean of Clarksville, VA; three brothers, Joseph Clark and Thomas Clark, Sr., both of Lackawaxen, and Raymond Clark of Rowlands; nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a sister, Bertha Gemp and two brothers, William F. Clark, Jr., and Bernard Clark.

A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at St. Mary Magdalen's Church in Honesdale. Burial was in the parish cemetery.

CATHERINE E. GREENE

HAWLEY - Catherine E. Greene of Lakeville died Saturday, June 3, 2000. She was 87.

Daughter of the late Joseph and Mary Holland McManus, she was born in Philadelphia. She was the widow of Roy H. Greene.

She was a member of Queen of Peace R.C. Church in Hawley, a member of the Hawley Senior Citizen Group, and a charter member of Maria Goretti Roman Catholic Church in Hatfield.

Survivors include two sons Joseph A. of Harrisburg and John R. of Souderton; one daughter, Gerry Landes of Collegville; her friend, Joseph E. Hawley, Jr. of Lakeville; a sister, Mary McKeever of Philadelphia; nine grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; nieces and nephews.

Services were held at Queen of Peace R.C. Church in Hawley. The Rev. Edward R. Scott, pastor of St. Thomas More R.C. Church in Lake Ariel, officiated. Burial was in St. Mary's Cemetery in Ledgedale.

Memorial contributions can be made to Children With Special Needs Fund, c/o First Union Bank, Lake Region Branch, Rt. 6, Hawley, in memory of Catherine E. Greene.

ROBERT MICHAEL JONES

HAWLEY - Robert Michael Jones of Hawley formerly of Barryville and Rockville, a 19-year area resident, and a real estate broker in the Hawley area, died Thursday, June 8, 2000 at home. He was 53.

Son of John Michael and Cecelia A. Uddgren Jones, he was born in Hawley.

He was a 1965 graduate of St. Agnes Cathedral and attended St. Francis College in Maine. He earned a para-legal certificate from Penn State University. He was a former president of the Hawley Borough Council and currently served as the Hawley Borough Zoning Officer. He was a past president of the PA Association of Realtors; a past president of the Hawley Lions Club; and was director of the national association of realtors. He served as president of the Hawley-Lake Wallenpaupack Babe Ruth League for nine years. He was a member of the Delaware Hudson Photographic Society, the Northeast Photography Club and the Lucky Seven Motorcycle Club.

Survivors include his wife, Verna Ruth Oelkers Jones; two sons, Thomas and Brian, at home; two sisters, Cecelia Ann Towery of Henrietta, TX and Alexis Sutherland of Wichita Falls, TX; and a niece.

Services were held at Teeters East Chapel in Hawley. The Rev. William B. Healey, pastor of Queen of Peace Church in Hawley, officiated. Burial was in Pine Grove Cemetery in Paupack.

LYNNE ROBERTS MANKOFF

HONESDALE - Lynne Roberts Mankoff of Honesdale, formerly a manager at Etna Insurance Company of Chicago and a three-year area resident, died June12, 2000 at home. She was 53.

Daughter of the late Irving and Myrtle Simon Roberts, she was born June 7, 1947 in Chicago, IL.

She graduated from Roosevelt University in Chicago earning a bachelor of fine arts degree and worked at several managerial positions at St. Mary's Hospital in Kankakee, IL and All State Insurance Company of Northbrook, IL.

Survivors include her husband, Charles Mankoff; a brother and sister-in-law, Dick and Chris Roberts of Honesdale; a sister-in-law, Patricia Mankoff of Lemont, IL; and four nephews.

Private funeral services were held at the family's convenience. Burial was in Indian Orchard Cemetery, Texas Township.

HELEN V. MARHOEFER

JEFFERSONVILLE - Helen V. Marhoefer, a homemaker and longtime area resident, died Monday, June 12, 2000 at the Skilled Nursing Unit of Community General Hospital in Harris. She was 95.

Daughter of the late Harry William and Margaret Haberlach Long, she was born December 9, 1904 in Ridgewood, NJ. She was the widow of George Marhoefer.

She was a member of St. George's Church in Jeffersonville.

Survivors include friends and neighbors, Jean and Harold Smith of Jeffersonville.

She was predeceased by a sister, Elsie Linder.

Entombment was made in St. John's Cemetery in Middle Village.

WILLIAM MCDONALD

ROCK HILL - William McDonald of Rock Hill, previous owner of the Rock Hill Diner and a longtime area resident, died Monday. June 12, 2000 at the Seelig Division of Commuity General Hospital in Harris. He was 79.

Son of the late William and Elizabeth Bole McDonald, he was born May 18, 1921 in Paterson, NJ. He was the widower of Elsie C. Frye McDonald.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and a member of the Rock Hill Fire Department.

Survivors include three daughters and two sons-in-law, Diane McDonald-Goetzmann and husband Donald of Omaha, NE, Nancy of Monticello and Robin and Mark Meddaugh of Rock Hill; a sister, Mary Huddy of Toms River, NJ; three grandsons; nieces and nephews.

Services were held at the VanInwegen-Kenny Funeral Home in Monticello. The Rev. David Jolly officiated. Burial was in the Glen Wild Cemetery in Glen Wild.

Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice.

SARAH HELENA MARKS O'DELL

MONGAUP VALLEY - Sarah Helena Marks O'Dell of Mongaup Valley, a homemaker and 55-year area resident, died Wednesday, June 14, 2000 at home. She was 77.

Daughter of Jesse and Margaret Langritz Marks, she was born September 6, 1922 in the Town of Shawangunk. She was the widow of Harold O'Dell.

She was a member of the Bethel Senior Citizens.

Survivors include a son, James of Honesdale, PA; a daughter, Veronica Shook of Mongaup Valley; five grandchildren, Babette, and Melissa Shook, Christopher, Holly Kay and Seth Marks; and four great-grandchildren, Nicole and Jessica Parks, Michael and Tiffany Frolio and Baby Sara (to be).

She was predeceased by a son, David; a brother, Clifford Marks; and a sister, Jessie Marks Kukas.

A memorial service will be announced at a later date. Cremation took place at the convenience of the family in Cedar Hill Crematory in Newburgh.

BERNARD SHORE

MONTICELLO - Bernard Shore of Monticello, retired former owner of the Chateau Restaurant in Monticello and longtime area resident, died Friday, June 16, 2000 in Community General Hospital in Harris. He was 72.

Son of Meyer and Anna Kaufman Shore, he was born April 12, 1928 in the Bronx.

He was a U.S. Army veteran during World War II.

He was president of the New York State Liquor Dealers; past president and lieutenant governor of Kiwanis, a member of the Monticello Fire Department, Elks Lodge #1544, Jewish War Veterans and Fallsburg Masonic Lodge.

Survivors include his wife, Sylvia Siegel Shore at home; a son, Jay and wife Christine of Monticello; a daughter, Barbara Papisdero and husband Ralph of Pulsaski, VA; five grandchildren, Daniel, Nicole, Lacey, Ashley and Andrew; nieces and nephews.

Services were held at the Joseph N. Garlick Funeral Home. Rabbi Irwin Tanenbaum officiated. Burial was in Sullivan County Veterans Cemetery in Liberty.

DAVID EARL TYLER SR.

BEACH LAKE - David Earl Tyler Sr. of Beach Lake, formerly of Honesdale, a truck driver for Herzog Trucking, died Tuesday, June 13, 2000 at home. He was 61.

Son of the late Edward Tyler and Lydia Smith Tyler, he was born in Hawley.

He was a member of the Army National Guard; a member of the Pleasure Riders Motorcycle Club, Flying Eagles Model Airplane Club, and White Mills Fire Department.

Survivors include his wife, Joan Tyler; two sons, David Jr. of White Mills and Jeffery of Westminster, MD; a daughter, Kimberly Masker of White Mills; a brother, Donald of Lake Ariel; a sister, Verna Smith of Beach Lake; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a brother, Everette Smith; and two sisters, Ella McKeel and Marie Rollison.

Services were held at Teeter's East Chapel in Hawley. The Rev. George Oriani, pastor of Abundant Life Church, officiated. Burial was in Clinton Center Cemetery in Waymart.
