Local student represents Honesdale
as Youth Ambassador

HONESDALE - Patrick Campbell, a sophomore at Honesdale High School, represented the school at the 22nd annual Central Pennsylvania Leadership Seminar of Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership (HOBY). Every high school in the Central Pennsylvania region had been invited to send one student ambassador to the four-day event held May 18-21 at Millersville University in Millersville, PA.

The seminar is held annually to recognize and develop leadership potential in outstanding sophomores. It provides a structured and intense setting for young to interact with recognized local, state and national leaders of business, education, the arts, government and the professions.

At Honesdale High School, Campbell, an honor student, is a member of the Honesdale Highlanders Marching Band and Pep Band. He participates in chorus and is a member of the Honesdale golf team. He is a member of St. John the Evangelist RC Youth Group and has been an altar server in the parish for seven years. He has also participated in the International Student Leadership Institute (ISLI) as both a trainee and facilitator and in June will again be a facilitator at Fatima Center in Dalton. Campbell is an Eagle Scout and a member of Troop 1, Honesdale. He is the son of William and Regina Campbell of Honesdale.

While at Millersville University, Campbell joined 280 participants who traveled to Harrisburg where they participated in a model legislative session. There, they amended and voted on bills of their creation, working side by side with the current members of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives. In addition, they were given the opportunity to travel offsite where they could explore future career opportunities. Campbell chose to visit Three Mile Island where he received insight on the many branches of engineering, specifically chemical and systems engineering. Another activity in which the group participated was mock contract negotiations between labor and management.
