Schadt
says Highland has done its best

ELDRED — Several Lackawaxen residents again crossed
the river to complain about alleged noise and trespass violations
originating from a campground near Minisink Ford.
The recent intervention of town constables and
the code enforcement officer (CEO) has not resolved noise and
trespass problems from customers at the Ascolona Campground, neighbors
said.
Supervisor Allan Schadt said the New York State
Health Department is also investigating, but advised protesting
residents that Highland has done what it can. “It may be time
to take this to court,” he added.
And it wasn’t just the Pennsylvanians who were
complaining,. “If your kids had witnessed what mine did last weekend,
I’ll bet [the campground] would go away,” one New York neighbor
told Schadt.
CEO Bruce Frazier said some adjustments were
made but music and entertainment is a part of the business in
campgrounds. “I don’t know what else they could do,” he said.
In other business Tuesday, the town board: approved
up to $2,500 for emergency electrical work, which was prompted
when fire nearly broke out in the meeting hall ceiling recently.
They also approved the appointment of Rich Walters as an additional
Constable and accepted the resignations of Town Justice Ed Hefferon
and planning board clerk Pamela Chergotis.
