Students learn what it takes

NARROWSBURG - The Narrowsburg Morning Program hosted TVAS and Cochecton Ambulance for EMS Week, May 14-20. The children learned about some of the equipment used on an ambulance. Mrs. Meunier demonstrated the ambulance cot and Mrs. Kraus, the Stairchair. Mrs. Murray was kind enough to "get boarded" using the spinal immobilization board. Mrs. Jay and Mr. Breutsche volunteered for the Reeves Stretcher and the Scoop Stretcher, respectively.






Channel 6 airs senior countdown

LIBERTY - Beginning Thursday, June 1, Game 6 will broadcast the annual Senior Countdown program sponsored by the BOCES Gifted and Talented Program and Sullivan County Community College. Countdown is a quiz program that brings Sullivan County schools together in a test of general knowledge. The segments, which will air on Cable 6 from June 1 until July 7, are produced by SCCC students enrolled in the college's television production class.

The Cable 6 Countdown schedule is as follows: Livingston Manor vs. Jeffersonville-Youngsville, airdates June 1, 9:00 p.m. and June 2, 8:00 p.m.; Roscoe vs. Livingston Manor, airdates June 8, 9:00 p.m. and June 9, 8:00 p.m.; Tri-Valley vs. Delaware Valley, airdates June 15, 9:00 p.m. and June 16, 8:00 p.m.; Delaware Valley vs. Jeffersonville-Youngsville, airdates June 22, 9:00 p.m. and June 23, 8:00 p.m.; Tri Valley vs. Roscoe, airdates June 29, 9:00 p.m. and June 30, 8:00 p.m.

The Senior Championship game will be featured on July 6 at 9:00 p.m. and again on Friday, July 7 at 8:00 p.m.

Students try their hand at business

HONESDALE - Honesdale High School students, sophomore Lauren VanVarick and junior Nicole Williams, accompanied their business education teacher, Barbara Lutat, to Wilkes University recently to participate in "The Wilkes University Entrepreneurship Experience."

While there, the students worked in teams to devise their own business plan using critical thinking, brainstorming, networking and other skills necessary in today's business world.






Pohle takes first at state science competition

HONESDALE - Kristin Pohle, a seventh grade student at Wayne Highlands Middle School, placed first in the Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Science State Competition held at Penn State University from May 14 to 16.

The 66th annual competition featured students from all over Pennsylvania in grades seven through 12.

Kristin received a first place award for her research and presentation on "Weather Forecast Accuracy." The hypothesis of her project dealt with the degree of accuracy of a one-day and a five-day temperature forecast.

To qualify for the states, Kristin had to present her research at the regional competition held in March at King's College in Wilkes-Barre. There she received a first place award as well as the "Excellence in Earth and Space Science Award."

Kristin is the daughter of Susan and Richard Pohle of Cold Springs, PA. Mr. Pohle, a member of the science department at Honesdale High School, served as her sponsor.






Hampson joins
West Point Class of 2004

HONESDALE - Steve Hampson, a member of Honesdale High School Class of 1999, recently received word of his appointment to the United States Military Academy at West Point from the office of Senator Rick Santorum.

Hampson, who has just completed his freshman year at the University of Scranton, will report to the academy on June 29 as a member of the Class of 2004.






Narrowsburg PTA scholarship fund needs you

NARROWSBURG - The Narrowsburg PTA is once again asking for your help. They have started their annual campaign to raise money to provide some of the college bound students with financial assistance.

Last year the PTA were able to award four scholarships. The total amount awarded was $3000. Each year the PTA have been able to increase the amount of money given to the students. It is because of community generosity that the PTA are able to offer our students this help.

This year's goal is to once again increase the amount of scholarships given. Donations will help college bound graduates who have worked hard and have shown good academic achievement.

Donations can be sent to Sullivan West/Narrowsburg, Erie Street, Narrowsburg, NY 12764. Checks should be made payable to the Narrowsburg PTA.
