CONSTANCE BARETTI

HONESDALE - Constance Baretti of Honesdale, formerly of Long Island, NY, died Friday, April 21, 2000 at the Ellen Memorial Health Care Center in Honesdale. She was 93.

Daughter of the late Phillip and Filomena Grecco Tirone, she was born in Brooklyn, NY. She was the widow of Michael Baretti.

She was a member of the Rosary Society of St. Patrick's of Smithtown, Long Island, NY.

Survivors include five daughters, Josephine Eiermann and husband Aloysius of New Jersey, Phyllis Belo and husband Nicholas of Honesdale, Dorothy Scalone and husband Robert of Hemlock Farms and Florida Maryann Skrapits and husband Dr. Louis Skrapits of South Carolina, Patricia Domiano and husband Rocco of South Carolina; a son, Henry and wife Genevieve of Beach Lake; a sister-in-law, Marie Tirone; 21 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by three brothers and a grandchild.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held Tuesday at St. Francis Xavier Roman Catholic Church in Narrowsburg, NY. The Rev. Thomas Jones officiated. Burial was in St. John's Cemetery in Middle Village, NJ.

Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice.

AGNES BERNITT

JEFFERSONVILLE - Agnes Bernitt of Jeffersonville, a retired clerk for the Town of Callicoon Assessor's Office and a former 47-year Callicoon resident, died Wednesday, April 26, 2000 at the Roscoe Community Nursing Home in Rocoe. She was 76.

Daughter of the late Thomas and Julia Perssl Lennon, she was born November 8, 1923, in New York City. She was the widow of Willis Bernitt.

She was a member of St. George's R.C. Church in Jeffersonville; the Retired Senior Volunteer Program; the Jeffersonville Senior Citizens; and the Ladies Auxiliary to the H. Russell Kenyon Post No. 5808, Veterans of Foreign Wars in Callicoon.

Survivors include a daughter, Barbara Hahl of Buck Brook; three sons, Dennis of Hankins, Kenneth of Long Eddy and Michael of North Branch; a sister, Marion Torrance of Bountiful, Utah; 14 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by a sister and five brothers.

A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at Holy Cross Church in Callicoon. The Rev. Ignatius Smith, OFM, officiated. Burial was in Holy Cross Cemetery in Callicoon.

ANNA "BETTY" E. KERBER BOWER

HAWLEY - Anna "Betty" E. Kerber Bower of Hawley, a 12-year sales person at Woodloch Woolens & Woodloch Pines and a lifelong area resident, died Thursday, April 27, 2000 at home. She was 76.

Daughter of the late Charles E. Kerber and Sigrid Ellingsen Kerber, she was born in Hawley. She was the widow of Thomas L. Bower.

She was a member of Queen of Peace R.C. Church in Hawley and the Altar & Rosary Society; and a charter member of the Forest Volunteer Fire Co. Auxiliary.

Survivors include two sons, Craig M. and wife Christina of Hawley, and Karl Edward of Welcome Lake; three grandsons, Thomas and Michael, both of Hawley, and Brian of Welcome Lake; and three granddaughters, Catherine and Serena, both of Hawley, and Andrea of Welcome Lake.

A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at Queen of Peace Roman Catholic Church in Hawley. The Rev. William B. Healey, Pastor, officiated. Burial was in St. Mary Madelane Cemetery in Honesdale.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Forest Volunteer Fire Co.

ZOFIJA BRZYTWA

ROSCOE - Zofija Brzytwa of Roscoe, a homemaker and a 60-year area resident, died Tuesday, April 25, 2000 at home. She was 92.

Daughter of the late Stanislaw and Katezyna Swidkiewicz, she was born June 11, 1907, in Jezerna, Poland. She was the widow of Antoni Brzytwa.

She was a communicant of the Gate of Heaven R.C. Church in Roscoe.

Survivors include three daughters, Lydia M. Dudo of Averill Park, Jadwigz "Hedy" Qualtere of Kingston and Alice Wojdat of Roscoe; two sons, Tadek of Davenport, FL and Walter of Roscoe; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews in Poland.

She was predeceased by a son, Joseph, and a grandson, Anthony.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at the Gate of Heaven R.C. Church in Roscoe. The Rev. Alfred Croke officiated. Burial was in St. Aloysius Cemetery in Livingston Manor.

RICHARD LEWIS BUCHER

HAWLEY - Richard Lewis Bucher of Westcolang, Hawley, a guard at Farview and a lifelong area resident, died Friday, April 28, 2000 at home. He was 52.

Son of the late Finn Bucher, Sr. and Ann Marie Holbert Bucher, he was born in Honesdale.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War. He graduated from the Colorado School of Trade. He was a member of the Sons of Norway and a NRA lifetime member.

Survivors include two brothers, Jon of Greeley and Finn Jr. of Sunbury; aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

Private cremation was private at the convenience of the family at H.G. Smith Crematory in Stroudsburg, PA.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Central Volunteer Fire Department.

HAZEL A. ERNHOUT

MONTICELLO - Hazel A. Ernhout of Monticello, a retired telephone operator for the New York Telephone company and a lifelong area resident, died Saturday, April 22, 2000 at the Sullivan County Adult Care Center in Liberty. She was 88.

Daughter of the late Louis F. and Annie Craft Drescher, she was born November 6, 1911, in the Town of Thompson. She was the widow of Lamont M. Ernhout.

Survivors include a daughter, Virginia C. Kerstanski of Fairborn, OH; a son-in-law, Sylvesta J. Kerstanski of Fairborn, OH; seven grandchildren, Joanne Stumpf and husband Donal of Centerville, OH, Paul Kerstanski and wife Julie of the U.S. Navy Base in San Diego, A, William Kerstanski and wife Mary of Middletown, OH, Nancy Jordan of Fairborn, OH, James Kerstanski and wife Tina of Springboro, OH, Daniel Kerstanski of Atlanta, GA and Mary Virag and husband, Joe of Brookville, OH; 16 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild.

She was predeceased by two sons, Lamont Jr. and James I.; and a grandson, Thomas G. Kerstanski.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

RUTH HAWKER HERRICK

HONESDALE - Ruth Hawker Herrick of Honesdale died Tuesday, April 25, 2000 at Ellen Memorial Health Care Center in Honesdale. She was 94.

Daughter of the late Samuel B. and Annie Rogers Hawker, she was born in Honesdale. She was the widow of Oscar G. Herrick.

She was a member of the Grace Episcopal Church in Honesdale and was a former church chorister.

Survivors include a son, Gerald of Paramus, NJ; a daughter, Gail E. Shatto of Poplar Branch, NC; two grandsons, Lawrence Evans of Poplar Branch and Shawn Herrick of Paramus; a granddaughter, Michele Evans of Redondo Beach, CA.

Services were held at the Grace Episcopal Church in Honesdale. Burial was in Indian Orchard Cemetery in Indian Orchard.

HEDY KAISER

HAWLEY - Hedy Hoynck Kaiser of Fawn Lake Forest in Hawley, formerly of West Caldwell, NJ and a nine-year area resident, died Saturday, April 29, 2000 in Wayne Memorial Hospital in Honesdale. She was 91.

Daughter of Ferdinand Hoynck and Lena Irgang Hoynck, she was born in Letamathe in Germany. She was the widow of Wilhelm Kaiser.

She was a member of Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church in Greeley.

Survivors include a son, William of Fawn Lake Forest in Hawley; a sister, Margarete Schaefers of Letamathe, Germany; nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial was offered in Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church in Greeley. The Rev. Michael Quinnan, pastor, officiated. Burial was in Green gates Cemetery in Hawley.

JOSEPHINE LOGIOVANE

HONESDALE - Josephine Logiovane of Honesdale, formerly of Queens, NY, died Tuesday, April 25, 2000, at Wayne Woodlands Manor in Waymart.

Daughter of the late Charles and Marion Gerlando Renina, she was born in Brooklyn, NY.

She was a graduate of Brown Business School in Queens, NY.

Survivors include her husband, Thomas Logiovane; a daughter, Patricia Zuber and husband Reinhard of South Canaan; a daughter-in-law, Joanne of Melbourne, FL; two sisters, Marie Jendusa of Long Island, NY and Lucy Maytan of New York; five grandchildren, Tracy Horne and Lauren Logiovane of Melbourne, Michele Zuber of Stockton, CA, Stephen and Jeannine Zubar of South Canaan; and a great-granddaughter, Kaylie Toma.

She was predeceased by a son, Michael; a brother, Vincent Reina; and a sister, Lena Pomilla.

Cremation took place at Maple Hill at Salem Crematory in Archbald.

JOHN EDWARD MARTIN

HAWLEY - John Edward Martin of Kimbles, Hawley, a retired equipment operator for PennDOT and a lifelong area resident, died Tuesday, April 25, 2000 at Mary Washington Hospital in Fredericksburg, VA. He was 78.

Son of the late John Martin and Minnie Mae Owens Martin, he was born in Kimbles. He was the widower of Hazel E. Wells Martin.

He was a veteran of World War II.

Survivors include a daughter, Susan Zeiser of Stafford, VA; a son, Thomas of Richmond, VA; two grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Services were held at Teeters' East Chapel in Hawley. The Rev Robert L. Jones, pastor of Cole Memorial Baptist Church, officiated. Burial was in Mt. Moriah Cemetery in Hawley.

KENNETH M. MYERS

HONESDALE - Kenneth M. "Bucky" Myers of Honesdale, a laborer for Jaflo Tree Company, died Sunday, April 23, 2000 at Wayne Memorial Hospital in Honesdale. He was 56.

Son of the late Kenneth J. and Della Anderson Myers, he was born in Hancock, NY.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War.

Survivors include a son, Scott E. of Honesdale; a daughter, Brenda Petroowski of Roaring Brook; three brothers, Edward, Roger and John, all of Honesdale; three sisters, Karen Breidenstein and Susan Stanton, both of Honesdale, and Maryann Austin Clyde of New York; four grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a daughter, Christine; and a niece.

Services were held at the Arthur A. Bryant Funeral Home in Honesdale.

LOUIS STEPHENSON

WHITE LAKE - Louis Stephenson of White Lake, a retired union carpenter for Local 255 in Bloomingburg and a lifelong area resident, died Friday, April 28, 2000 in Community General Hospital in Harris. He was 90.

Son of Charles and Minnie VanBergen Stephenson, he was born December 8, 1909 in Bethel.

He was a member of the White Lake Fire Department.

Survivors include four sons, Charles Stephenson of Tampa, FL, John Hendrickson of Fairfield,, PA, Merlin Hendrickson of Blacksburg, SC and Ronald Hendrickson of White Lake; a daughter, Arlene Leasure of Statesville, NC; three sisters, Roseanna Brog and Rita Yewchuck, both of Jeffersonville and Sylvia Martinis of California; 21 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.

Services were held at Ramsay's Funeral Home in Kauneonga Lake. The Rev. Kenneth Rodgers officiated.

EVELYN W. TIETJE

BEACH LAKE - Evelyn W. Tietje of Welcome Lake in Beach Lake, a homemaker and 27-year area resident, died Thursday, April 7, 2000 at Wayne Memorial Hospital in Honesdale. She was 84.

Daughter of Walter Thomas Campbell and Wilhelmina Boyle Campbell, she was born July 27, 1915 in Jersey City, NJ. She was the widow of John Martin Tietje.

She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Narrowsburg; the Welcome Lake Fire Department Women's Auxiliary; EMT and member of the Tusten Volunteer Ambulance in Narrowsburg, NY and a member of the Grand Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star of New Jersey in Jersey City, NJ.

Survivors include a daughter, Evelyn Georgs and husband Richard of Roseland, NJ; two sons, Jack and wife Maureen of Welcome Lake and Walter and wife Elaine of Palm Coast, FL; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Services were held at Rasmussen Sons Inc. Funeral Home in Narrowsburg, NY. The Rev. Donald Beck officiated. Burial was in Glen Cove Cemetery in Narrowsburg, NY.
