ELIZABETH ‘BETTY’ C. DENNIS

Elizabeth “Betty” C. Dennis of Beach Lake, PA passed away July 24, 2012 at Wayne Memorial Hospital, Honesdale PA, following an illness. She was born in Kingston, PA, August 29, 1937, daughter of the late Ruth Davey Dennis and Thomas S. Dennis.

She was preceded in death by two brothers; Robert Freiermuth and Richard Theobald.

She is survived by nephew Dennis C Freiermuth and wife Terry of Liberty NY; niece Donna Piscitelli and husband James of Moravia NY; niece Tina Richardson and husband Terry of Monongahela PA; niece Teresa Bouselli, and sister-in-law Phyllis Bouselli, both of Beach Lake, PA; a brother, Thomas Theobald and wife Jackie of NJ; several grand nieces and nephews, great grand nieces and nephews and cousins.

Betty graduated from Narrowsburg Central School with the class of 1956. She attended Roberts Wesley College for 4 years, graduating with her B.S in Education. She received her Master’s Degree from SUNY Geneseo College, Geneseo NY.

After college Betty settled in Warsaw, NY where she taught in the Warsaw Central School for 32 years. As a high school teacher, she valued the education of her students; Betty loved teaching and undertook being the Advisor for the Year Book for many years at Warsaw Central. Upon retirement she returned to Beach Lake to live with and care for her mother. Betty was a very caring and giving person.

Betty enjoyed traveling and did so quite extensively throughout her lifetime. She embraced life and lived it to the fullest extent in her chosen lifestyle. Dearest to her heart was the Beach Lake United Methodist Church where she was a lifetime member and very faithful in fulfilling her offices and positions held over the years. As a member of the United Methodist Women, she was always willing to serve in any capacity. She was very dedicated to her church and its ministry.

Betty was initiated into The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International on May 6, 1971. She was initiated into the Beta Gamma Chapter and upon her retirement in 1995, she moved from Warsaw, NY to Beach Lake, PA and transferred her membership to the Tau Chapter. She was active in both chapters, serving as Chapter President of Beta Gamma, plus she was Corresponding Secretary, Parliamentarian and Recording Secretary; during her years in Beta Gamma, she served on every chapter committee. She also served on several chapter committees in Tau Chapter and was presently Scrapbook/Historical Records Chair. At the state level of the society, she served on the following committees: Scholarship, Finance, and Audit. She chaired at the state level Travel and Study, and Awards. Betty attended numerous International and Regional Conventions through the years of her membership. At the time of her passing, she was serving on the 2012 International Steering Committee that just took place in New York City this July 24-28, 2012. Key phrases that come to mind in describing Betty’s membership in DKG is her devotion that was given to the Society and the great portion of her time, talents and guidance given both to new members and older members. She was the epitome of a DKG member both in being a mentor, friend, and guardian of all the Society held dear to herself.

She was also a very avid and active member of the Beach Lake Fire Company Auxiliary; she worked very hard to make sure their fund raisers were successful. Her membership in the Tusten Senior Citizens spanned many years in which she helped with their luncheons, played cards, helped with activities, and for several years wrote a column in The River Reporter about the group’s meetings and activities. She was a member of the Wayne County Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and volunteered for 27 years in the business office of Wayne Memorial Hospital.

Added to her many interests in life she also enjoyed fishing in her younger years, remained an avid sports fan throughout her lifetime, a very competitive card player, enjoyed antiquing, holiday decorating, crocheting, knitting, sewing and other handcrafts. Her hand crafted entries in the Wayne County Fair over the years took many Blue Ribbons. She lived a very full, interesting and satisfying life. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends, but we can take joy in knowing she laid aside all of her earthly tasks and concerns, as she stepped into the presence of her Lord and heard, “Well done, my good and faithful servant.” Betty dear, bask in the love and holy presence of our Lord Jesus Christ.

A memorial service will be held at the Beach Lake United Methodist Church, August 11, 2012 at 11 a.m. A luncheon will be served in the church hall following the service. Donations may be made in memory of Betty to the Beach Lake United Methodist Church, PO Box 387, Beach Lake, PA 18405.
