Ruby M. Kraus. a long-time resident of Narrowsburg. NY, passed away on Wednesday, May 30, 2012 at Community Medical Center, Scranton, PA, following a long illness. She was 94 years of age.

She was born on February 19. 1918 in Cochecton, NY to Katherine and Alexander Stephenson. She married Charles Kraus, who predeceased her in 1997.

Ruby loved life, especially when she was surrounded by her family. She was a wonderful cook and was happiest when cooking for a crowd. Her green thumb was evident when she displayed her beautiful flower and vegetable gardens. She had a soft spot in her heart for animals and catered to all of them. These fine attributes were surpassed only by her generosity to others, especially to those less fortunate. She was always ready to give a helping hand for any reason. She believed in hard work and her favorite job was at the Concord Hotel where she took care of the indoor flowers and plants. She also was a cook at Kelly's Home for Adults and the Narrowsburg School cafeteria. She enjoyed good times and a good joke. We miss her already.

Ruby is survived by her five children: sons Charles and his wife Katherine of Dover, NH, Anthony and his companion Emogene Browskowski of Fort Myers, FL and Robert and his wife Barbara of Howell, NJ; daughters Ruby Vannalla of Summerton, SC and Katherine Vannatta and her husband Bill of Milford, PA; 11 grandchildren: Charles Kraus, William Kraus, Thomas Kraus, Leona Maree, Koren Roth, Susan Crouch, Linda Reed, Kenneth Kraus, Douglas Kraus, Tammy Wilson, Gregory Vannatta; and three step-grandchildren: Robin Humphreys, Mark Grossman and Dana Grossman. She is also survived by 16 great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, Ruby is predeceased by her sisters Cora Stephenson and Bertha Kellam; her brother Robert Stephenson; and her son-in-law Norman Vannatta.

Visitation will be held on Friday, June 1, 2012 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. and Saturday, June 2, 2012 from 9 to 10 a.m. at Rasmussen Funeral Home, 90 Main Street in Narrowsburg. NY.
