Edwin W. Schroedel of Eldred, NY, a retired operating engineer and longtime resident, passed away on Wednesday, January 4, 2012 at Orange Regional Medical Center, Middletown, NY. He was 88.

The son of the late Leopold and Louise Schrimpe Schroedel, he was born September 10, 1923 in Elmhurst, Long Island. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Charlotte Elizabeth Hirsch.

Edwin retired from Sullivan Highway Products, Bridgeville, NY. He was a member of the Operating Engineers Union and the Beaver Brook Rod and Gun Club.

A family statement reads: “Ed was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was a devoted family man. He was an avid trap shooter, avid hunter who loved the outdoors. He will greatly be missed, especially by his family.”

Survivors include his wife; sons Rick Schroedel and wife Glenda of Chesapeake, VI, Tony Schroedel of Alden, NY, Matt Schroedel and wife Sherry of Endicott, NY and Chuck Schroedel of Hawley, PA; grandchildren Kelly Oliver and husband Tim of Gaithersburg, MD and Ryan Schroedel of Endicott; sister Edie Komarek of Asbury Park, NJ; brothers Leo Schroedel and wife Doris of Easton, PA and Bill Schroedel and wife Lorraine of Flemington, NJ; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Ed is predeceased by a brother; Fred Schroedel; sister Louise Schroedel; and grandson Tyler Schroedel.

Funeral services were held on Monday, January 9 at the Harrison-Rasmussen Funeral Home, Barryville, NY. Rev. Linda Bohs officiated.

Burial followed at Montoza Cemetery, Eldred, NY.
