A Pike County man was sentenced in Pike court for assaulting his wife in their Greentown home. In November a Pike County Jury found Paul Burke, age 44, guilty of Aggravated Assault, a felony, Terroristic Threats, Simple Assault and Recklessly Endangering Another, all misdemeanors. On February 24, Judge Gregory H. Chelak sentenced Burke to 8 ½ years to 17 years in a state correctional facility, and ordered him to pay a fine of $1,700.00.

At trial, the District Attorney’s Office presented evidence that Burke, at his home in Greentown, had pushed his wife to the floor, punched her in the face and choked her. Burke then grabbed a knife and attempted to stab his wife while threatening to kill her. During the assault, the victim suffered multiple injuries.

The victim was able to escape and make her way to the Pennsylvania State Police station at Blooming Grove. The state police then conducted an investigation and arrested Burke.

Burke must serve at least 8 ½ years prior to being eligible for release on parole.
