On Thursday February 19th, 2015 the Village of Liberty Police Department arrested Jason Martinez, 31 of Queens NY after an investigation into his failure to register and verify as a sex offender.
Police began investigating in January when it was discovered that Martinez was no longer living at an address in the Village of Liberty that he had registered with the Division of Criminal Justice Services as his residence.
Subsequent investigation resulted in the issuance of an arrest warrant from the Town of Liberty Court for failing to register a change in his physical address within 10 days as a sex offender.
The warrant was executed in the early morning hours on Thursday at an address in Queens, NY with the assistance of the United States Marshal’s Service NY/NJ Regional Fugitive Task Force, and Martinez was taken into custody. Further investigation revealed that Martinez had also failed to register two intent accounts and identifiers that he possessed while living in Liberty.
Martinez was turned over to the Village of Liberty Police and charged with three counts of failing to register and verify as a sex offender, all felonies. Martinez was arraigned in the Town of Liberty Court and remanded to the Sullivan County Jail without bail. Martinez is due back in court on Tuesday February 24th, 2015.
