On Tuesday, December 23rd, 2014, the New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation in Middletown arrested Pearl Smith, age 46, of the Town of Greenville, for Grand Larceny in third degree and Aggravated Identity Theft.
Smith was developed as a suspect after her son, a US Army soldier deployed to Afghanistan, reported to troopers that someone had used his identity information to withdraw money from a personal banking account.
The investigation revealed that Smith stole over $27,000 from her son while he was deployed. Smith was arraigned in Town of Greenville Court and released on her own recognizance to return to court on January 8, 2015.
