Liberty woman arrested for welfare fraud

On Thursday November 14th, 2014 State Police at Liberty, along with the Sullivan County Welfare Fraud Unit arrested Jocelyne Lopez age 23 of Liberty, NY after determining that she had applied for and obtained public assistance benefits that she was not entitled to. The investigation determined that Lopez filed false applications for various public services that allowed her to collect more than $12,000 in benefits that she otherwise would not have been entitled to.

Lopez was charged with Grand Larceny 3rd Degree, Welfare Fraud 3rd Degree, and Offering a False Instrument for Filing 1st Degree, felonies. She was arraigned in the Town of Liberty Court and remanded to the Sullivan County Jail in lieu of $5000 cash bail.
