On Friday October 31, 2014 State Police at Liberty were called to an address on Stanton Corners Rd in the Town of Liberty for a reported assault. Investigation revealed that Clifford Gildersleeve, age 31 of Swan Lake was being served with eviction papers at his residence when he assaulted the person attempting to serve him.
It was reported that Gildersleeve punched the 64 year old man in the face, knocking him down. Gildersleeve then armed himself with a baseball bat and threatened the man with same. Gildersleeve then fled the scene in a pickup truck. A Trooper patrolling nearby located Gildersleeve a short time later as he attempted to hide his vehicle behind a nearby business. He was taken into custody without incident.
Gildersleeve was charged with Assault 3rd Degree, Menacing 2nd Degree, Criminal Possession of a Weapon 4th Degree, and Aggravated Unlicensed Vehicle Operation 3rd Degree, misdemeanors and Disorderly Conduct, a violation. He was arraigned in the Town of Liberty Court and remanded to the Sullivan County Jail in lieu of cash bail.
