In a continuing investigation into the sale of heroin in and around the Village of Woodridge, Deputies from the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office and Officers from the Woodridge Police Department raided a home located at 1176 Glen Wild Road Tuesday morning at around 7:30 AM (04/08/14).

Armed with a search warrant obtained by the District Attorney’s Office, police seized 13 grams of heroin, packaging materials and a scale. “This particular heroin was already cut, but not yet packaged”, said Sheriff Michael Schiff. Arrested at the scene was Laura Alam a/k/a Laura Kalina 05/10/81, who lives at the residence.

She was charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance with Intent to Sell, a class B Felony, Criminal Use of Drug Paraphernalia, and Unlawful Possession of Marijuana. “Alam was already on our radar”, said Woodridge Chief of Police John Calvello, Sr. “The activity on Glen Wild Road picked up significantly after we shut down the heroin operation on Maple Avenue last month”.

Police believe Alam was moving several thousand dollars of heroin each week. Also arrested at the residence was David Whipple 02/01/79 of Grahamsville. He was charged with Loitering and released on an appearance ticket. Laura Alam was arraigned before Town of Fallsburg Justice Robert Schienman and sent to the Sullivan County Jail in lieu of $20,000 bail pending a future court appearance.

Tuesday’s arrest is Laura Alam’s third encounter with the law in the past six months. On November 12, 2013 Deputy Sheriffs went to her house to look for a Rachel Houghtaling who was wanted on a misdemeanor drug charge. At the scene they discovered heroin and cocaine packaged for sale. Alam was subsequently charged with Felony Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance.

On February 25, 2014 Alam was a passenger in a vehicle that was stopped on State Route 17 in Rock Hill. She was charged in that incident with misdemeanor possession of heroin.
