Monticello Police arrested David Lee Ward (50) of Monticello on March 14. Ward was charged with felonies for criminal possession of stolen property, forgery, tampering with physical evidence and unlawful possession of marijuana.

Ward was also wanted by the Village of Liberty Police on bench warrants for possession of a controlled substance and forcible touching.

On the evening of March 14, Monticello officers on patrol observed Ward walking on Forestburg road in the Village of Monticello. Officers were aware that the Village of Liberty Police on a bench warrant wanted Ward, and arrested him.

While being processed in the Monticello Police station officers observed Ward attempting to swallow a plastic baggie in his mouth. Officers were able to recover the baggie, which was found to contain marijuana. Officers also recovered a Sears’s credit card from Ward’s wallet and a receipt from a local convenience.

The credit card had been reported stolen from a resident of Glen Spey. Ward had also used the stolen credit card to make a purchase of tobacco products at the convenience store by forging the signature of the credit card owner.

Ward was arraigned before Town of Thompson justice Martin Miller and remanded to the Sullivan county jail without bail pending further court action. Ward is currently on parole in New York State until May 2015 for a prior conviction of burglary.
