Liberty man arrested for string of car robberies

On Thursday 01/16/14 the Village of Liberty Police Department arrested Joseph Stringfellow, 31, of Liberty, after an investigation into larcenies from cars in the Village of Liberty.

While investigating a recent rash of larcenies from cars, Liberty Police Officers on patrol located Stringfellow in the process of stealing money from a car parked in a residential driveway around 4am.

Upon being approached by the officers Stringfellow fled on foot into a heavily wooded area. Officers were able to follow shoe impressions in the snow to Stringfellows residence and located him inside. Officers recovered stolen proceeds from the larceny hidden in Stringfellow’s apartment and also recovered marijuana from the apartment.

Additional investigation resulted in charging Stringfellow with stealing from an additional vehicle and going through several other vehicles in an attempt to steal money. Stringfellow was charged with tampering with physical evidence, a felony, two counts of petit larceny, eight counts of attempted petit larceny, obstructing governmental administration, misdemeanors and unlawful possession of marijuana a violation.

Stringfellow was arraigned in the Town of Liberty Court and remanded to Sullivan County Jail without bail. He is due to appear in Town of Liberty Court on January 30th, 2014.

The Liberty Police Department is conducting an ongoing investigation into additional larcenies from motor vehicles. Residents are reminded to keep their cars locked at all times and to report any suspicious individuals by calling 845-292-4422.
