Woodridge man arrested for DWI, resisting arrest

Posted

On Saturday evening (11/9/13) at about 8:15 PM the Sullivan County Sheriff's Office responded to a head on collision on State Route 42 in the Town of Forestburgh. Upon arriving at the scene, deputies observed members of the Forestburgh Fire Department physically restraining one of the drivers.

"The subject who caused the accident was apparently trying to leave the scene", said Sheriff Mike Schiff. "The firemen did a good job keeping him there until the patrol arrived". The driver being detained was identified as Romel SanMartin, 40, of Woodridge.

He was operating a Ford F350 pickup truck heading southbound towards Port Jervis when he crossed the double yellow line and struck an on coming Ford Focus being driven by a Pennsylvania Woman. Luckily there were no injuries in this accident.

SanMartin, who has a revoked license, was arrested for Aggravated DWI, Felony DWI, and Felony Unlicensed Operation of a Vehicle. He is currently on probation for a 2011 DWI conviction in Westchester County and is required to have an alcohol interlock system on his vehicle. SanMartin was being held in the lockup at the Sheriff's Patrol office pending arraignment Sunday morning.
