Monticello Police arrested Xavier Hinton (24), a 16 year-old male (name being withheld because he may be eligible for youthful offender status) and a 15 year-old male juvenile all of Monticello on Saturday 10/19/13.

All three defendants were charged with felonies for burglary in the 3rd degree, criminal mischief in the 3rd degree and misdemeanor possession of burglar tools. Hinton was additionally charged with 2 counts of misdemeanor endangering the welfare of a child.

At 7:40 PM Saturday Monticello Police received a report of a possible burglary in progress at 41 St. John Street in the Village of Monticello. An alert neighbor had observed a suspicious vehicle being parked in a driveway on Roosevelt place.

Three persons were then seen leaving the vehicle and going behind 41 St. John Street, which is an unoccupied residence. The neighbor then saw flashlights through a window of the unoccupied residence and called Monticello Police.

Responding Monticello officers found the rear door of the residence had been kicked open. PO John Calvello Jr then deployed K-9 Rocco into the residence after giving several warnings for anyone inside to come out.

K-9 Rocco quickly located and apprehended Hinton inside the residence. The 15 and 16 year-olds then immediately came out of hiding and were also arrested.

Hinton was remanded to the Sullivan county jail on $20,000.00, the 16 year-old was remanded on $15,000.00 and the 15 year-old was released to a parent at the Monticello Police station and issued an appearance ticket to appear in Sullivan county family court. Sullivan county sheriff deputies assisted Monticello police at the scene.
