Nilsa Lebron, age 56, of Honesdale was sentenced, by President Judge Raymond L. Hamill, to 1 to 4 years in a State Correctional Institution for Criminal Conspiracy to Possess Marijuana With The Intent To Deliver. The arrest and conviction of Lebron was the result of an investigation by the Wayne County Drug Task Force (WCDTF).

On April 25, 2013, the WCDTF, with the assistance of the Honesdale Borough Police and the Pennsylvania State Police, served a search warrant at Lebron’s apartment located at 1111 Main Street in Honesdale. There they found numerous bags of marijuana, empty baggies and a digital scale.

Lebron admitted that she went to New York City by bus on a weekly basis where she would purchase a half pound of marijuana then return to Honesdale where she would sell the marijuana in 1 ounce, ½ ounce, 1/8 ounce and 1 gram quantities. Lebron had seven prior convictions in New York and New Jersey of which 6 were drug related. Lebron had been living in Honesdale for approximately 4 months prior to her arrest.

Janine Edwards, Wayne County District Attorney, stated “The investigation of Lebron was initiated as a result of the Honesdale Borough Police noticing unusually heavy foot traffic to Lebron’s apartment by high school students. The fact that someone would have the nerve to set up a drug operation on the main street of our community is inexplicable.

"While heroin and illicit prescription pills are the primary drug problem in Wayne County and throughout Pennsylvania, marijuana is often a gateway drug to heroin. The focus of the WCDTF is on heroin and illicit prescription pills but the WCDTF will not hesitate to investigate and incarcerate those who are growing and/or selling marijuana in our community.”
