Four arrested in Liberty on gun and drug charges

The Village of Liberty Police Deparment and the New York State Police arrested four individuals after a joint investigation into the possession of a stolen semi-automatic handgun.

Police began investigating after receiving a report that a handgun had been stolen from a residence in the Town of Liberty.

During the course of the investigation police searched a residence in Crestview Apartments in the Village of Liberty and subsequently located two additionall illegally possessed semi-automatic handguns, one of which was loaded and had the serial number defaced, heroin, cocaine, marijuana, scales, packaging material and approximately $2,500 in chash.

Further investigation resulted in the search of a vehicle and locating the original stolen semi-automatic handgun, which was loaded, marihuana and $800 in cash. Charged as a result of the investigation was Tanner Austin, 19 of Liberty, Shakaan Brewster, 36 of Liberty, Gerardo Blanco 24 of Jeffersonville and Joseph Koelpin , 22 of White Sulphur Springs.

Austin was charged with criminal possession of a weapon in the 2nd degree and criminal sale of a firearm in the 3rd degree, both felonies.

Brewster was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell in the 3rd degree, criminal possession of a controlled substance in the 4th degree, criminal possession of a controlled substance in the 5th degree, two counts of criminal possession of a weapon in the 2nd degree, two counts of criminal possession of a weapon in the 3rd degree, criminal sale of a firearm in the 3rd degree, all felonies, two counts of criminal use of drug paraphernalia in the 2nd degree and criminal possession of marihuana in the 5th degree misdemeanors.

Blanco was charged with criminal possession of a weapon in the 2nd degree, criminal sale of a firearm in the 3rd degree both felonies and criminal possession of marihuana in the 5th degree a misdemeanor.

Koelpin was charged with criminal possession of a weapon in the 2nd degree a felony and criminal possession of marihuana in the 5th degree a misdemeanor. All four were arraigned in Town of Liberty Court with Tanner being remanded to Sullivan County Jail in lieu of $30,000 bail and Brewster, Blanco and Koelpin remanded to Sullivan County Jail with no bail.
