Monticello man arrested after stolen mortorcycle chase

Monticello Police arrested Abeaseah Dossen (32) of Monticello on Saturday 9/28/13. At 1:20 PM Saturday Monticello Police officer Scott Galligan was on patrol when he observed Dossen operating a 2004 Honda motorcycle between 60-70 MPH in a westerly direction on Broadway in the village of Monticello. The posted speed limit is 30 MPH in the village of Monticello.

PO Galligan attempted to stop Dossen but Dossen fled from the officer continuing at a high rate of speed on the motorcycle. PO Galligan pursued Dossen with emergency lights and siren onto Varnell road, Leonard road, and Wildcat road and to south Maplewood road. While on south Maplewood road Dossen jumped off the motorcycle and fled on foot into a wooded area.

Monticello police assisted by the State Police and Sullivan county sheriff deputies searched for Dossen but he could not be located at that time. Officers recovered the motorcycle and a computer check revealed that the motorcycle had been reported stolen to the NYPD on 9/6/13. Officers also recovered was a cellular phone from the motorcycle.

Upon further investigation officers were able to identify Dossen as the motorcycle operator and were familiar were he worked in the village of Monticello. Dossen was then arrested at 4:20 PM when officers went to his job and found him there. Dossen was arraigned in the town of liberty justice court and remanded to the Sullivan County Jail on $25,000.00 bail pending further action in the village of Monticello justice court.

Dossen was charged with felonies for criminal possession of stolen property in the 3rd degree and reckless endangerment in the 1st degree. Dossen was also charged with misdemeanors for unlawfully fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle in the 3rd degree, resisting arrest, obstructing governmental administration, aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle in the 3rd degree and reckless driving. He was also issued 10 vehicle and traffic summons.
